they just dont want to work right. i can only install them as have disk method and even then i only get 16bit color with no options for any better.. just curious, the older drivers work fine and set everything properly

edit if i start with a older 176 driver then do the have disk or install they work fine but i cant start fresh with the 178.48's

yes this is an issue that happens to this particular laptop (and other MSIs) and no one knows how to resolve it.

okay here is how the 178.48's will CORRECTLY work with the 1651.

download the driver off msi web site. do not install it yet. extract it to a folder you know where to find it.

now there are 2 steps required. first start the setup like normal from the exe in the folder you extracted. UNCHECK install video driver. only allow it to install the hd audio driver.

    wait till this finishes.

now go to device manager and go to display adapters and double click on the standard 9600gt or the already installed one.

go to driver, and then choose update driver. choose let me pick and then choose have disk. then browse to the folder you extracted but when this folder was extracted it made a "display" folder this is where you will browse. find a file called NVAA and click that one it should be the first file. do not use the regular nvac.inf file. now finish the install reboot and it should be fine.

the regular nvac.inf has about 6-8 different 9600m gt's listed and for some reason it during an auto install does not detect the proper one it needs. the inf mentioned above will install the correct one. i have done this on 3 units and it worked each time perfectly now. it installs physics and eveything functions the way it should.

okay wow this is wierd. these were working perfect for the last couple days and i just turned on the system and it somehow reverted back to 16bit color and i could not raise the resolution anymore???

why they would work for a few days and now not is beyond me. i dont get it.
