Am i the only one who is having nothing but trouble with their MSI laptop? This laptop is 4 months old, and is now making its way to California for the second time in a little over a month. First because it was overheating, and now because the screen keeps cutting off and the only way to get it to turn back on is by holding the power button till it turns off then let it sit for a few mins then cut it back on and the last time it did this to me it decided that it wouldnt boot into windows. This is getting ridiculous. I mean i can understand if it was four years old, but 4 months. I am very unhappy with the quality of MSI's builds. At least i have my 4 year old compaq (which has never been in for repair once) but i cant access my school work that was saved on my MSI (i have some of it but not all because i did not have time to back it up)

    just a little rant

No you're not the only one, but you are a minority. Most people are happy with their msi laptops. This thread really needs a poll :D

I have had 0 issues with mine.

i just wanted to vent a little, as i sure others who had my problem would. I mean when you spend 800.00 on a laptop, which i know isnt much compared to others, you tend to get a little angry when its had to go in to repair twice in a 4 month period. MSI said that they would pay for ground shipping, but im going to try to get them to pay for 2 day air. Its not fair to me that my laptop has been out of the shop for a little over a month and i have to send it in again. they need to stand behind their product.

No problems here with my GT627.

My opinion on your problem with your laptop reminds of the HP DV2000,DV6000 and DV9000, having issues with the gpu overheating and causing the soldering coming lose.

I dont mean the gpu but the north bridge not getting sufficient cooling.

I have seen a GX630 with no thermal pad or TIM on the north bridge.

I have one at the shop I could take a picture if you want though it will have to be on Saturday. Thursday and Friday is my day off.

After some arguing with MSI I got them to upgrade my shipping to two day air vs the ground that they wanted to ship it by. Now all i have to do is get it to UPS.

I really like this laptop, but it has proven to be unreliable so far. Hopefully this will be the last issue I have with it.

I just love how people spout off their opinions with no facts to base it on. Nvidia has never publicly admitted there was even a problem, during the whole nvidia fiasco they kept silent, and even went to great lengths to sanitize their own message boards.
Secondly, I wouldn't believe anything anyone says until Nvidia themselves say publicly the issue has been corrected. Anything not coming from Nvidia or other official sources is just speculative at best. In fact, there is absolutely no concrete proof Nvidia has even bothered to correct the problem, let alone any official word from them.

I love people shouting out there oppinion to be honest, adds that much more to a decent forum conversation.

As regard to the laptop, it really is unfortunate your having issues, my laptops still running brutally flawless, even better now that i've got it 7'd up,

I really hope it comes back to you at best speed and in working condition, under the circumstances you've had, i'd be venting too.

The laptop in question is four year old. The 130m wasn't out them. My guess is that the OP has a gx600/gx610.

    Going for the ms-1656?

I have to say that I'm impressed with MSI's tech support this time around. As soon as my laptop got to their repair center I got a call from them letting me know that it made it there. I like this a lot better then getting an email. I just got a call today from MSI letting me know that they found the problem, and have fixed it and it is on its way back to me. I was shocked when i found out what the problem was. It turns out that the motherboard was fried. I figured it was the video card but i was wrong. Cant wait to get it back.

I just dont get it. I get my laptop back from the shop yesterday, and it STILL HAS THE SAME ING PROBLEM IT DID WHEN I SENT THE ING LAPTOP IN. The screen will cut off for no reason at all. I was surfing the internet and bam i got a black screen. It has done this three times now since I got it. MSI has to have the worst build quality I have ever seen. They are worse then Dell. Im sick and tired of having to send it in every couple of weeks, or days this time. What would you guys do if you were me? I want my money back for this POS, but i know that will never happen. Instead I will just have to keep sending this crap back to MSI to be "fixed".

    End Rant

I just had to vent a little. If anyone has suggestions as to why this keeps happening please let me know.

Its fine buddy, your right though it should be fixed.

Aren't you entitled to a full refund after sending it in three times?

idk but im going to call monday and get it straightened out. I would love a full refund, but would be happy if they sent me another gx633. I think this one is a lemon. If i do get a refund however i have had my eye on this

Tell MSI the problem you are having and tell them even after sending to them it didnt work. What they do to check the motherboard is use stuff they have in working condition ram, cpu, gpu, etc.... untill i sent it back the third time and this time oh i gave it to them straight.... tired of doing it they used my stuff checked the problem bam it was my ram they say rma, everything else fine then when my comp came back overclocked my cpu for the first time using turbo shuts off i said "**CK" cpu fried and its oem. So this time i bought a retail all my parts have 3 year warranty and prob gonna put a 2 year warranty on my mobo and the 4850 i am soon to get!!!! hehe but ask them if they can use your parts btw.
