if your system is working good and you have the basics installed you know you'll always need, use Backup and Restore. This way games programs and stuff will be ready to when you do need to fix it. when your system goes down just ploppin the windows 7 disc and do a fix my computer.

Restore from a Backup Image in Windows 7
Repair your computer in Windows 7 | help.artaro.eu

the image you make should be saved somewhere other than the same harddrive of your laptop just in case your HD dies.

This. Create an image of your main partition and store it on a USB drive or external hard drive. If you ever (you might never need it) have to do a complete recovery, restoring an image is going to be much, much faster than recovering from the Windows install disk/recovery partition.

I'd say 15 minutes and you're good to go. Not only are your drivers installed, but your applications are as well. Now that's a lifesaver.
