I bought a asus g751jy but it's gone back due to rma so I'm looking at a gt72 (ease of cleaning is very appealing) how bad is the fhd screen compared to a ips? Because I would have to go from 2500$ to 3500$ model to get it! Can you game with this on your lap, I'm sitting up in bed? I heard you can't because the air is brought in from the bottom for the fans! And if I bought the 211 model with 1 128gig ssd how easy is it to install a aftermarket samsung ssd?

The TN panel is ok, it gets the job done and it can be upgraded to the IPS down the line if you like. The SSD slots (m.2) are all under the main cover so very easy to get to.

Well, the bottom is a big grill that serves as intake for the dual fans, so using it on your lap might have a slight adverse effect on the cooling, but considering the very low temps most users are reporting, it could be doable. Albeit a bit uncomfortable, considering the size and weight haha.

If you want to game in bed, it's not hard to buy or cut a piece of wood like a small table that fits the size of the notebook, as to keep it on a flat surface despite using it on a bed etc. I used to do this with older gaming notebooks like 10 years ago, and it worked well. Or a cooling pad haha.

Seems like there is a lot of issues with the g751 since it's so new have the kinks been worked out for the gt72?

I wouldn't advise you to game on your lap with a 17 inch notebook. Browsing the web or watching youtube on my "light" GS60 is uncomfortable enough.

I have occasionally played battlefield 4 on the sofa while having the GT72 on my lap. It wasn't bad at all.

As for the screen, it might not be top of the line but trust me its not BAD at all. After all if you want better viewing experience it's probably better to invest in a good external monitor to have in the place where you spend most of your time, rather than on the small size built in laptop screen.

If you can position yourself just right the very good venting makes it possible but not ideal.

There's a lap desk that I've seen somewhere before that you can use if you prefer to place the notebook on your lap.

    Here it is.

I've gamed almost daily with a 17" notebook in my lap on a recliner for 6+ years since when I'm not in my wheelchair I'm usually in my recliner, I use a Logitech lap desk my wife also has one for her laptop. Mine will soon have a GT72 on it as well :)
