    Hi guys,

I'm sure many of you have already thought about upgrading their CPU with some pretty cheap beast ones available on ebay and don't know how is gonna be as they are quite cheap.

    I planned to buy either a 2920xm ES or a 2820qm QS (D2) for £230 or £190.

    I have a Erazer X6813/ MSI 16F2 with a 150W adapter, chipset HM67 and i5-2410m currently.
What would you advise me to do ?

Do you think I could accomodate easily a 2920xm ES to run at stock clock at the start and then maybe try to overclock to level 2 or 3 ?
Have some of you get this one in their barebone and experienced issues ? (for example turbo boost hasn't worked for some ASUS users and nothing in the bios mentioned that it is an 'XM')
How much o/c should I expect ? Maybe not much with my 150W adapter so is it worthy to buy a 180w one to get more o/c ?

Is the cooling good enough in the MSI16F2 ? I currently have 72 degrees C for the CPU and 77 degrees C with my GTX460m o/c (check my sig) MAX after running MW2 for a couple of hours and the thing is that I can't check my fans operation (rpm or %) or even control it so dont know if they run well enough...Some guys has this issue too ? (speedfan, nvinspector or hwinfo64 doesnt give any info about it)

So perhaps the safest solution is to go for a 2820qm after all...
What do you guys think ?

    Thanks

Yes 2820QM is the safest route but 2920XM is alot better if you can get one that work. Yeah i also think of upgrading my cpu with the 2920XM. I read that guy who cant get his ES to turbo boost but also many AW users who got it work.

I just ordered one right now on ebay and will see how it goes, if you can wait for a week or two I will post my result up here.

Sounds good to me, I won't get it straight away so will wait for your results.
From which supplier are you getting your 2920xm ? Price and Stepping ?

Really interesting tho, looking forward to hearing from you :)

This is true. The reason why Alienware's M18x can overclock the XM is because they can set multiplier ratio's through the BIOS. Every other notebook has them locked, just go into your BIOS and see, 99.9% won't let you change anything or even show the options and the 16F2 is no exception.

I have confirmed this through unlocking the BIOS as has Unclewebb in another ES - XM thread.

my new cpu came in the mail today as you can see it runs well although I cannot get it to overclock or set multiplier via throttlestop. But for now its good enough for me.

How noticeable is the performance increase?
