My X460DX has a weird spacebar key.

It makes a flat rattle sound when I type instead of the relatively quiet sound of the other keys.

Does anyone else have this issue? I am concerning returning it but need to know whether to get Newegg credit or a replacement X460DX.

I removed the spacebar key on my X460DX and painted a thin layer of liquid tape on the inside of the key (the kind you use to seal electrical wiring).

Rattling and clanky-ness is gone and key works great now.

It is a very sleek and well built laptop. I like it alot.

It is about the size and and a little lighter than a Macbook pro.

It has an excellent video card for its weight class. Yes, it can play many games with graphics on high. No problems with gaming at all. It is easy to swap memory and the HDD. Putting an SSD in it this week if I keep it.

The space key had a slight clack sound when I hit it. It is due to the way I type because it did not do it when my girlfriend typed. However, it was definitely there and annoyed the hell out of me. The liquid tape fix worked great.

It fell off the top shelf of a 4 foot bookcase onto a concrete floor while open. It had a small mark on the corner that wiped right off and I had to pop the battery back into place, but it works fine and looking at it right now I cannot even tell where the mark was. It still looks brand new.

I have not decided to keep it yet for the follwing reasons:

Excellent keyboard but slightly more cramped than the U36SD which my Girlfriend has. I kinda like her keyboard more.

It is heavier than the U36SD.

IMO it is the best gaming laptop in the sub 2kg or 4.5 lb or less class. The GT 540M is far better than the 520M in the U36.

My biggest annoyance, however, is the screen. It is a nice screen and reasonably bright, brighter than the U36 as far as I can tell, but it is the glossiest screen I have ever seen. Far more glassy than my XPS 1530M. Even in ambient room brightest I can see reflections in it. THis may be a deal breaker.

Everything else about the laptop is truly excellent. I hope this screen does not kill the laptop because MSI really deserves credit for putting so much in such small a package for such a reasonable cost.

@AlphaNerd: how does the pressing the keys feel?
I am hell bent on good tactile feel.. I have the U41jc and the keys are solid and feel every press unlike the Hp dv6.. I am assuming the U31/U36 to have the same KB as U41..

Keyboard is fine. Nice key-presses. It feels about the same as the U36SD but the U36 has a slightly more spacious keyboard. There is about and inch margin on each side of the keyboard MSI failed to utilize. Probably to increase cooling.

I like the key-presses. Soft but just enough resistance so you know you hit the key.

I ordered a anti-glare screen protector from Green Onion Supply.

Glossy screens are a throwback from when people bought laptops in retail stores and the glossy made them appear brighter with more contrast. They have long since needed to go away and it irks me manufacturers still primarily use them.

There really is very little wrong with this laptop except all the bloatware and the glossy screen. I recommend just downloading all the drivers onto a USB and doing a fresh windows install. The drive comes partitioned with an operating system partition and a data partition but they did it backwards - the operating system is on the bigger partition. Probably want to redo the partitions if you do a fresh install. Otherwise you can just uninstall the bloatware one at a time.

MSI did a great job. They deserve more respect in the Laptop field. Last year they were in the top 4 four reliability ratings.

    Thanks for that feedback..

Could please tell me what are the two switches at top right corner? what they do? In one of the reviews i see one of them is called battery turbo switch, but exactly does it do? reduce the brightness/something to do with optiums??

Has anyone replaced the ODD with a caddy and a HDD/SSD?
