    Hi everyone,

It's me again! And I am having more problems with my PC - more specifically Windows. I was about to turn off my new MS-1039, and it wasn't doing anything so I held down the power button to shut it off. Then, me being curious, I pressed the TAB button to see what POST was during boot. It did nothing but seem to wreck my PC. Now windows starts up and says 'Windows could not start, this may have been a recent hardware modification or similar" So I clicked on last known configuration, and start it normally, and safemode. Windows starts loading....and loading....and it wont stop loading. Next I try to insert my Windows XP cd to load up windows and try a repair, it starts up, and says 'setup is starting windows' and it stays there. Wont load. Can someone help me? I want to get this fixed!

ask Microsoft they should support that product or the computer manufature, i think when you were tabing around you might have changed something. but i think that it has the possiblity of being a virus where it has just takeing out some of your key OS compnents and will no longer work. that is to the end of my knowlegde i have never had that problem, but ask the people who SHOULD know how to fix it(Micrsoft, and computer Manufacturer)

I think I'm just gonna use linux to format the drive, then re-install windows. I haven't gotten too far into installing drivers or anything yet.

    1. turn off system

    2. pull the battery and the power cord let it sit for about 20 seconds

    3. then plug everything in again.

    4. turn it on again.

    I hope this helps!

    XD.

Already started the process of wiping it!

Funny thing though, I've done that before with other electronic equipment, and it usually works. Thanks for the tip though, Liquid :).

Wiping isn't too much of a problem for me right now anyway, only had the bluetooth and ati drivers installed :D. Windows is a pain though.

I'll let you guys know how it works out!

EDIT: Before I wiped it, I noticed that when booting in safe mode, windows stopped loading at the BTHidmgr.sys driver. Maybe that had something to do with it?

hmm the stupid Bluetooth driver might have something to do with it...maybe...

next time you reformat you might want to use FAT32 because Linux is able to write to it.
so next time it crashes you can pop a live CD in there to fix/delete/replace the BTHidmgr.sys file.

this is why I have a multi boot system =D

You make a good point, Liquid. I might put ubuntu on a smaller partition or something just in case I lose my live CD.

I have seen like 4 other people on this board with bluetooth problems as well!

    Ubuntu is good...but..
    might I recommend Mepis linux?
its a great distro because it supports wireless out of the box....err off the live CD.

Same exact thing happened with my new MSI-1039!!! It would freeze and stop at the BTHidmgr.sys file.
I managed to reload windows XP on the thing but it started freezing randomly, blue screen of death randomly, and wouldn't go into stand by mode.
I don't think I installed any programs that would have caused this, adaware, omega drivers, spybot, yahoo widgets. I sent the thing back to Avadirect where I got it from and they said they were gonna take a look at it to see if it was a hardware problem or something I did.
Anything you would recommend I tell the tech guys at Avadirect to look at or do to the system to make sure this doesn't happen again?
I just hope they don't ship it back to me and I have to deal with this same problem all over.

Good luck with this issue. Removing the battery and plugging it back in fixes this problem. The same thing happened on my L715, MS-1032, and I've seen others have this problem with the 1039.

MSI can't figure it out, or they aren't trying. I had a second L715 shipped to me the and same thing happened. I eventually got the 1032 because I felt there was a design flaw in the 1036/L715. Now that I see others with the same trouble, I feel like an idiot.

Hi, I have an MSI S425 - a new one and it happened to mw as well - windows won't load and in safe mode when it reaches the BlueTooth driver it stops.
Have u made any driver updates to your chipset or Lan adaptor before it happened?

I can confirm the same problem on the 1057. It happened to me while updating the Lan driver thru live update. Solved by removing the battery as stated. We have ourselves a universal MSI bug.

Yeah occasionally if I have to 'hard button off' on my 1029 I have this problem where Windows won't load, it just stays on the blue loading bar. By sheer luck messing around with the thing I found removing all sources of power for 20 seconds fixes it, I was ready for tearing my hair out! So definitely a universal MSI problem people :p

I have the MSI MS-1029 and I had an identical experience to SuperCoolAl. Removed the wireless+BT card, changed memory etc. Last resort was to remove battery and put it back and that was that, wish I had tried that first! This is something MSI really needs to address... heh, even the Windows XP SP2 installation CD would not finnish booting! WEIRD...

Hi, I have this problem too. I just got an MSI 660 Megabook a couple of days ago. The computer froze, will not restart, when I try in safe mode it hangs at bthidmgr.sys. Took it back to the store yesterday, they said it was because of a program I had installed. Well it did it again today. Has anyone received answers to this problem, I don't want to have to take the battery out every time!!

I'm having the same problem, windows will not work. After loading the windows screen, it goes straight into a scan disk and it says "an unspecified error has occurred. If i skip it, it just freezes.

Booting into safe mode, mine computer as well stops at bthidmgr.sys.

    (my computer is custom made)

So bthidmgr.sys is a blue tooth thing?

To fix the problem, do you just have to take the battery out?

When it does the scan disk, it says "deleting orphan file record segment 6316" (for all different numbers)

Windows repair will not work for me as i cant see it apear when i put the cd in.

Also, the Blue Screen of Death, is that the screen where it says "windows has shut down to prevent further damage to your computer", followed by an error?

EDIT: I took the batery out and the problem still occurs

My son and I have been plagued by a similar problem. 4 times in the past year.
    MSI 1029/M635 - Windows XP Pro_SP2
Usually starts with a problem shutting down ..... but not necessarily. Power off to complete the shutdown when it hangs on shutdown.
On next boot - stalls at WinXP black logo screen w. blue bars moving
    - Last Known Config fails to complete
    - Safe Mode stops after mup.sys loads
    - Using XP CD to reinstall or load Recovery Console stalls at "Setup
    is starting Windows"
Haven't been able to define clearly the solution. The last time we re&re memory module and it booted fine. Typically we've had to format the HDD with 3rd party products and then can reinstall Windows

hey guys.. I just fell victom to this bthidmgr.sys! I spent a good four hours searching around for a fix. iwas ready to create a USB boot disk just get in and use fdisk to be able to re-install XP. i was desperate! then I found your post! you guys saved me! removing all sources of power for 20secs, got me in!

I guess a backgrounder would help somebody out there to finally put an end to this nightmare. I'm using an MSI S425, i was updating my drivers using the MSI online updater. the updater got stuck on the LAN drivers. it lingered there for about 20mins or so before i forced a power shutdown. when it rebooted, it stayed on the windows loading screen... it lingered there for another 20mins or so... i got fed-up and did another forced power shutdown. same thing, another shutdown, tried safe mode, no-go, shut down, safe mode command line, no-go!. i've been googling and yahooing all the while. frustrating! anyway, thank you. got my notebook going again. am goin to uninstall the BT drivers and do a clean install.. hoping that it would remove whatever caused it in the first place.

    again, thanks guys.

OMG, that battery trick worked. I pulled out the battery, then held down the power button for 5 seconds, then plugged it back in. I still seemed to hang on that file (I couldn't see what loaded after that since it was soo quick) then I got in.

I got this issue after updating my amd driver since my processor wasnt speed stepping with whatever default driver I originally had...not to mention I am on vacation too...
