Yes, it should work fine as long as you have the correct heatsink.

What card do you have right now?

If you have the 9600m then you have the wrong heatsink.

moral hazard is right about the heatsink. You need heatsink from GT735, GT725 or custom made one.
I want to add something else ... there were a lot of posts about that will a certain card work in that laptop. What our experience showed up to now is that the PCIe slot inside can provide max 60Watt of power (there is no HE tab for additional 15 Watts).
I've tried nVidia Quadro FX3700 in my laptop which is also 75 Watt card, the laptop started normaly, which means that the card can be started even if the HE tab is not connected (up to that moment I was more than happy), but after I found out that the card I bought is not fully working and I had to return it (I had issues not concerning power). I wrote that just to asure you that the card will start, but snce I haven't had a fully working card I can't tell you with 100% confidence that it won't make you troubles in games or applications that require heavy video rendering. You might experience sudden BSoD or restarts of your laptop, because of not enough power provided to the card. Of course you can always risk and buy it and clear out my assumption :)

The 9800m GTS is similar to the 9800m GS (which comes stock in some of these notebooks).

It might be throttled though, if it is you could flash the vBIOS to stop the throttling.
