Yes it will. As it works in my notebook. A GTS 160m (with a unused HE tab) changed to a more power hungry GTX 260m wich have the HE tab too. But everything is working.

Fx3700m will be locked @ lower frequency on your machine.
Though that issue seems nothing to do with the unused HE-tab.

The MSI's can support all the power without the HE tab. For example some months ago I swapped the GTS 160m to a Fx3700m And it worked with full clocks. And I have the little brother of this machine.

Your success on GT628 (aka.1651) makes no sense.
1722 is different from 1651 and some people tested 3700m before.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/522403-gx720-video-upgrade-3.html

Besides, MHD4850 which works flawlessly on 1722 can't light up the built-in screen of 1651.

What do you mean makes no sense? lol

    It makes perfect sense.

Only a few people have tried the 3700m in the gx720, and they seem to have all been ES or Lenovo cards which behave strangely. I can definitely tell you its not because of the HE tab. Its much more likely if there is any issue its caused by the strange way the laptop deals with built in displays with the 4850.

Not only Lenovo P612 FX3700m but also a clevo 9800mgtx(p398 board, the same as HP FX3700m) was tested in GT725.

No luck and the same issue.

In fact, I bought a 9800mgtx only for less than 100 dollars from an owner of GT725.
He sold it for such low price partly because of that issue.

Well, I stand corrected then. My apologies for suggesting it when there are definitely issues, but still a shame you didn't post sooner or in some other threads.

I wonder if the issue could be resolved, and if has to do with the power circuitry. Did anyone try it with a 25w CPU? Did they all have quad cores installed?
Also... I really think a lower power consumption card would work like the 3600m. If not then perhaps a g94, or g84 card, because of course the 9600m works. Maybe it would help get to the heart of the issue.

Hi! I know it's a kinda late reply, but do you still have the ATI 4850M videocard ? Is it for sale?

    Many Thanks!
