Hi everyone I am having a tough time deciding between the Asus G75VW and the MSI GT70 0ND-492US. The deciding factor for me is how quiet and effective the cooling systems are and also I want a good battery life, while just surfing the web. Please give me any info possible. Thanks!

and this has nothing to do with the tread but what is the difference between the 675 m and the 675 mx nivia graphics cards in the MSI laptops?

I can only answer your last question because I don't own an Asus. Notebookcheck is a great resource for laptop video card comparisons. Check boxes in lines 24 and 34 and hit restrict at the top and you will see how those cards compare. I wish I could link exactly that, but you get the point.

    Currently rockin':
    MSI GT60-403US
    Dual Samsung 840 SSD 500gb
    16gb RAM

Does anyone know if the MSI GT70 0ND-492US stays cool under gaming? (this model has a Nvidia 675mx)

    Cooler and Quieter

You'll need to have both notebooks bought off the shelf with the same GPU and CPU plus repaste with the same TC.This neans they'll both need to be the GTX670M and i7 3630CPU slus same HDD or SSD.

The GTX670M is the best you can get from Asus G75 because of their "Quiet" marketing.A GTX675M and GTX680M would mean more heat thus loader fans.

If Asus has soldered in the graphics card then there's replacement possible.

    HM76 chipset means no Raid.

There should be a clean install the same OS and drivers as close as possible.

The room temperature will be exactly the same if they are side by side.

The same programs should be used to monitor the temperatures while the same activity is taking place.

As for better time on battery while surfing you can start by having an SSD for the primary boot drive and power saving mode enabledi n power options.Screen brightness should be turned down and keyboard lighting off..

The batteries are not the same in the Asus(8 cell) and MSI(9 cell) so it will be hard to compare apples to apples..

Taken from a G75VW review: On the LAPTOP Battery Test (continuous surfing on the Web over Wi-Fi), the G75VW(GTX660M) lasted 3 hours and 11 minutes, 24 minutes less than the average desktop replacement. The MSI GT60(GTX670M), by contrast, lasted 4 hours and 37 minutes.

Presently new SSDs with the power saving B02 stepping SandForce 2281 controller is being tested in notebooks.

I have owned both g75 and several msi laptops, the former in the signature, and also a bunch of others like clevos, aws and few precision workstations, and g75 is by far the king of quiet. Actually I have not owned, in my opinion, a quieter laptop other then asus g series.

How loud is the MSI the deciding factor is that, because I will buy the MSI in a heartbeat, if it is not a problem to most. Can anyone tell me how loud the MSI GT70 laptop is with the GTX 675mx?

    In fact to narrow it down is this cool and mostly quiet? : MSI GT70 0ND-492US Laptop Computer - 3rd generation Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz, 16GB DDR3, 128GB mSATA SSD + 750GB HDD, Blu-ray Player/DVDRW, 4GB NVIDIA GTX 675MX, 17.3 Full HD, Windows 8 64-bit at TigerDirect.com

one cool and quiet CAN ANY PREVIOUS MSI OWNERS TELL ME ABOUT THE HEAT AND FAN NOISE? Is it not really noticeable?

I have a GT70 Dragon Edition right now and Asus G75vx. The Asus is much quieter. The MSI gets about 10-20 FPS more than the Asus in BF3. Not much a difference in performance than the Asus to justify the cost difference so the MSI is going back to Amazon. I have the G74vx overclocked via MSIAFTERBURNER at +100 core and +100ram and BF3 running almost two days straight over the weekend. I never heard the fans at all, the GPU temp stayed at 58 celcius and i averaged 50-90 FPS depending on the map and explosions etc. It id drop one time down to the 20's when three tanks blew up beside me on the desert map. It is a GREAT laptop for the price and the 670mx is hard to beat for the price.

Thanks this really made my decision easy, I am going with the Asus G75VW. It has a large SSD, another 750GB hard drive (7200 rpm), a Nvidia 670m, AND A WONDER COOLING SYSTEM! I know the MSI is great, but i heard the fan noise being compared to a living room fan. that is LOUD for a laptop!
And I know the MSI has better graphics card, but with the fans being so loud and the ASUS making so little noise, because of it a am now ordering the G75 in about 2 days. Any objections please tell me soon :) !
