After a lot of research and hundreds of pages of reading, I decided to buy this laptop from the US (I live in Italy). The final part of my research is to decide where to buy it from. This is a very important decision as the barebone doesn't have the 1 year global warranty from MSI. So, if I receive the laptop and the delete key doesn't function, I have to pay 200 euros to send it / receive it.

Gentechpc, xoticpc, powernotebooks etc, all have a huge number of good reviews, but also bad reviews (from my point of view), as is one for xoticpc, with somebody saying that is very happy about his purchase and that the laptop functions well but the top right part of his steelseries keyboard is "popping up out of the chassis a bit". I have to be sure that the notebook is in perfect condition, and that these kind of "little" sloppy things do not happen because a week after I purchase it, I'm leaving on a journey and I won't have access to a delivery service for 4 months :) (me + girlfriend => mountains)

Who do you think will *truly* care about this kind of problem after I explain it to them after I place my order, and will *truly* check the notebook? After the review I talked about, I'm imagining xoticpc seeing the keyboard and saying "oh well, we'll ship it like this, no biggie, it still functions well", because I can't imagine that they just didn't see.

I'm awaiting for your recommendations. Thanks!

I wouldn't look at barebons unless you have a local reseller or you sacrifice the warranty and fix it yourself! I gave it a million thoght before pulling the trigger! because shipping from dubai for the warranty would cost me over 2000dhm ($550 USD), and I ended up getting the premium model!

the problem is not the warranty! it's whether the reseller will sell you spare parts or not! RK computers and RJtech don't have everything! even ebay lacks them!

hmm. I' not sure I understand. I don't want to buy simply a barebone unit, but a berbone unit with a configuration (2670qm, 580m, 16gb 1600 mhz). From the US that costs aprox 1400 euros including shipping, but here in Italy is almost 2000 euros. That's a huge difference. And, by "spare parts" do you mean cpu, gpu, ram, hdd? How can resellers not have this? And if you are refering to semiconductors and such, there are msi services around, and I can pay them to fix no matter what the problem will be.

Bear in mind that you will have to pay mini. 20% VAT and possible customs fee and that's the reason why not many EU people are getting their laptop from the US...

it's about the other parts like heatsink, fans, casing, and most importantly motherboards!
even the GPU could run into minor problems considering that you'll have to flash the bios to a modded one in order for it to work without hassle! those are the problem you should look at!

have you seen medion erazer? they have MSI barebones w/GTX570M, only the 15.6" though!

I'm only interested in the 17" version. Are you guys sure I have to pay 20% VAT in italy?? I asked Ken about the total price including all fees, that I have to pay, and he said "the total price is the price on config page + shipping". Who is mistaken?

no one is mistaken actually. You will be charged the additional fee when delivery to Italy. (the laptop will be stuck in the italian customs for a little while).

It happens everytime, Jame5 from the forum had to pay about £200 VAT and handling fee
