Well, here I was waiting for my old Alienware to sell, and debating between the GT60 2OD-261US and a Sager. Then poof - the MSI 3K is discontinued (some sites specifically list it as discontinued on February 18th). Not out of stock, mind you, but discontinued everywhere you look. Since MSI now shows the laptop as having Windows 8.1, I suspect this a production delay to get the new image (I know upgrading from 8 -> 8.1 was a bit of a headache so they probably wanted to clear out the channel to avoid the support calls), but the resellers aren't talking. :) For that matter, it seems like every 15.6" MSI with the 780M has been disappearing.

Does anybody who isn't under an embargo have any idea when the 3K machines will be available again? Now that I'll shortly be without a gaming machine I'm itching to buy something, and it looks like my decision may have been made for me.

I guess it has been discontinued so the the updated revision can arrive (Maxwell and Broadwell).

Except that the 880M has been confirmed to be another Kepler rehash and the 3K machine wasn't released until a couple of months ago. I think the change on the MSI site to Windows 8.1 is telling, but there's something going on since the resellers have been forbidden from talking about it. It would be one thing if it was an unreleased product, but it was actually for sale until yesterday.

Let's just say many manufacturers are pulling lines at the moment.

manufacturers or MSI? Legitimate question ... not trying to blame MSI. I was wanting to buy the 3K GT60 and thought they were the only manufacturer.

They were sold out and there's no way to get them.
Hopefully they will release it again later.
