On xotic, they are now selling the Sager NP9270, which has the new 3rd Gen Intel CPUs and the nVidia 600m series:
    2048MB GDDR5 nVIDIA 675M and Intel Core i7-3820 (3.6 GHz) for only $2036.03.

Compared to the nearest MSI laptop of 2048MB DDR5 nVIDIA GTX 580M and 2nd Generation Intel® Mobile Core i7 2670QM (2.2 GHz) for $2099.99, that Sager seems like a HELL of a deal.

Now, I am really wanting to buy an MSI for this coming college year, as the speakers are AMAZING, build quality is better, and basically has an overall better case and features, but this competition by Sager is making me consider otherwise unless MSI pops out a laptop with both of those updates. Do you think MSI will release a close price laptop of their own with the same specs by this August? Will it also have the same case and software features?

The i7-3820 is a desktop Sandy Bridge CPU.

The mobile Ivy Bridge CPU's won't be released until April 29th.

I've been looking to see when they will announce it, how do you know its the 29th. I also heard it might not be for 2 months.

So, how did you know that?

Also the msi model has a graphics chip that like 400 dollars more, or I'm pretty sure it is.

Yeah, sorry bout that didn't read the fine print and confused it for the Ivy Bridge number.

And apparently the 675M is just a re-brand of the 580M. However, the 680M will have the Keplar design and will be released sometime in July from what I've read.

    "Fragbook
Jetzt vorbestellen! Dieser Artikel ist ende April lieferbar!

    Voraussichtliches Lieferdatum:
    Tuesday, 17.04.2012"

It's just available for pre-order. Ende April means late April but than they write 04/17/2012 so i'm not really sure which is the right one.

That is correct. There is not a hard date on the release do the Sager NP9270, nor the parts therein. I would anticipate late April.

There also has been no word from MSI on releasing a comparable model either. Still in a waiting period for that information as well.

Why on earth would you people buy a notebook with 675M? GTX 680M which is atleast 30% better is coming out this summer. 7970M in late may.

For me, I have an immediate situation. My existing laptop is on its last leg and I foresee it lasting maybe one more month. If I could hold out for the 680M, I would. I mainly want the IVY Bridge for its power saving capability since I do travel with my notebook and need as much battery as I can get for this type of power hungry notebook. Besides, I would choose the 580M when Ivy Bridge comes out but the options that are available now (or soon) are the 670M or nothing. I would rather have the 675M if I have to choose a graphics card over the 670M and of course if you need to purchase a laptop in the next few months. Not everyone can wait until late summer (or longer) to purchase a new/replacement laptop.

There are so many articles about test comparisons between Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge. I was able to find one about the specific Ivy Bridge processor I am waiting for, i7-3820QM. It compares the i7-2960XM Sandy Bridge against the i7-3820QM Ivy Bridge. I thought the results were pretty interesting: Ivy Bridge i7-3820QM Performance
