I guess title says it all. I've been considering Cryo LX, Zalman NC2000, or the cooler where you can put two fans anywhere, by Cooler Master (forgot the exact name).

I can't remember where the gpu exhaust holes are for the laptop since it's being repaired right now, but vaguely I think it is toward the back of the unit? If so, is it better to go with Cryo LX?

All I can confirm is that the GPU exhaust is indeed primarily in the back of the unit. There is a side exhaust on the right as well, but hardly any heat emanates from it. Idk about the cooler, I haven't yet used or purchased one.

Ah if the exhaust holes are indeed in the back of the unit, then Cryo LX is a good choice I guess since the fans are located in the back of the cooler as well.

Try taking a look at the Enermax Aeolus. It has one huge fan in the middle. It can be bought for around 30-40 USD.

My only recommendation is to not buy a small cooler, for example, one suitable for 15" laptops. I have a Zalman NC1500 and it just isn't... big enough. I had to improvise a little to have the laptop over the cooler in a stable position.

I just bought the ZALMAN ZM-NC3000U, it should be arriving soon. I'll let you know how it works out.

I use CoolerMaster Notepal W2 (3-fan). Works great with my modded bottom cover, as one of the fans blows air directly at the extra vents I made for my GPU. Combined with a copper mod of the GPU heatsink, it works wonders with temps. My GPU never reaches more than 75C in Furmark extreme burning mode, while being OC'ed to 800MHz.
On top of all that, the CoolerMaster W2 I have is black, it looks good together with my laptop. It fits the lappy perfectly (laptop is 395mm wide, while the Notepal W2 is 400mm wide).

I received the zalman cooler today. It feels like its barely moving air but the temperature under load did drop from peaks of 105 to 78. So I guess its doing its job. The center placement of the huge fan seems to be right on the money since the stock vents for the core and the gpu are near the center of the pad. I guess what it lack in overall speed it makes up in total airflow.

I do have to admit the since the fan rotates at a lower speed its super quiet when compared to other coolers.

It is indeed one of the best but I would recommend the Notepal U3.
It has 80mm fans vs 70mm in W2.
It has fans whose location can be adjusted(the best thing) :)

Do you know if the GX740 will fit the Cooler Master U2 (says up 17" which is the size of the laptop).

Because this is a great price: Amazon.com: Cooler Master

According to CoolerMaster's Website ( NotePal U2 - Cooler Master) the Notepal U2 has width of 343mm. The GX740 has width of 395mm, so it will stick out.
The Notepal U3 is a lot bigger though, and has one more fan...
