    Hi Guys,

Recently I bought the Acer Triton 500 (which seems to be made by MSI based on the GS65 chassis).

What is the general consensus on the quality of screen hinges and mountings on current MSI laptops? I know in the past that MSI had huge problems with the GS73VR, GT73, some Raiders etc. How have more modern laptop held up until now such as the GS65? I had to buy my laptop in a hurry because of work but dependin gon the durability I will decide to keep it or not.

They have been fine, just make sure to open from the center of screen for every notebooks that you own so it will prolong the life expectancy of hinges.

Thank you for your insights. so you consider it better than it used to be when it comes to build quality of MSI laptops?

And i will keep your advice in mind, in general I always open from the middle, but I will keep it extra in mind.

I am not aware MSI had hinge issues since the GT70 and to some extent a few of the GT72 family. Since years ago they have improved on it thankfully. I remember the GT70 was very widespread.

At least current models I haven't heard of any hinge issues, and I didn't have any with my GT80, GT73 and currently GS75 (though this one is new, can't really tell much from such little usage yet hahaha)

Thanks, that is good to hear, because even though it is branded an Acer, it is pretty much just a GS65 of which people say it is slightly more sturdy? I like it a lot so I want it to last.

Huh, I hadn't noticed. It seems the port location for the acer is more similar to the GS75 but it uses DP instead of HDMI among other changes. I wonder if it's just a case of using the same design instead of being like a whitebook change.... I don't think it's an MSI rebraded, but might be a case of using the same design, just adopting it to your brand. Some designs are "external" and then each manufacturer adopts their requirements like ports etc.

Yeah the port locations are slightly different, keyboard caps are the same, the inverted motherboard, heatsink design as well, seems like it has been customized for acer.

Haven't seen complaints with this generation so far. There will always be some with every brand, but MSI lately does not stand out as having more problems.

You will always get some units that go bad but as long as you use it care it's less likely going to happen with you.
    1. No brute force while opening the lid
    2. Open the lid from the middle to spread force to both hinges evenly
