Originally I had planned to get the Wind, but with its delays, I doubt it'll ever make it to Canada before September...

However, the AspireOne's already available for preorder in many stores.

Now, after giving it some thought, I don't find any difference between Wind and the HDD version of AspireOne, other than screen size and laptop size.

Can someone bring up some differences?

The screensize is important too me. 8,9" is too small in my opinion, 10,2" is just big enough.

The fact that MSI has a LED backlit screen is also nice.

No, I don't believe in tech support in general, and I've been doing fine with resolving issues myself, and taking good care of my laptops.
Quality (or there lack of) is a dealmaker/breaker though, so of course I would not be one of the first adapters; I'll wait for at least a general verdict (from forums) before purchasing either one anyways.

I've never seen an 8.9", since I only had the EEE701.
Of course 10.2" will look better, but the AspireOne is also smaller than the Wind, which I kinda like.
And I believe the AspireOne also has an LED screen.

    I don't believe so.

And the Acer comes with a glossy screen, MSI with matte.

The Wind's matte screen is flaky just like the ones on EEE701 though.

    Flaky? what do you mean?

I have not seen the screen on the Wind myself but all reviews say it's far superior to EEE701 and 901.

Sorry, not flaky, but on the EEE701, the screen looks as if it has random sparkle spots, I don't know if that's what Kevin is implying here:

Yeah i asked him what he exactly means, he hasn't answered yet. But if you look at Laptopmag.com and cnet.com they say the screen on the Wind is very good.

    @Hahutzy,

Just curious since Aspire One is only 8.9", what are the dimensions (mainly thickness), weight and prices. When will it be available? Availability after mid August will be too late for the coming school year for most students. Any link to the pre-order site?

Wind is pretty good with 10.2" screen and only 2.3lbs with all features I want. I don't game so the 1.6GHz Atom is good enough for me. Of course Wind can be improved further on weight, dimensions, aesthetic looks (guess Aspire One looks better and probaly speculating price will be better as well) and features (see my other thread about Wind II).

    Here's a size comparison:
    http://www.sizeasy.com/page/size_co...s-hp2133-vs-ASUS-EeePC-901-vs-Acer-Aspire-One

A1 is $379 and available for preorder in several stores (yes, in Ontario), like CanComp and TigerDirect.

If you order both at the same time today, chances are you'll get your A1 sooner than your Wind, since the Winds have been delayed again and again...

It weighs in at around 1kg, or 2.2lbs, with a 3-cell.

The specs are almost identical, what with MSI wanting to be incompetent and decided to remove the overclock feature and all.

I think the only thing Wind has over A1, spec wise, is bluetooth. That said, if you're going for the Linux 3-cell version of both, you actually end up with a smaller HDD (80 vs 120) and paying $20 more.

I don't know if the screen size will make a big difference to me, mainly because I also want mobility.

    -----

Edit: Also, I don't know if I got this right, but Wind expands up to 2Gb RAM, while A1 expands up to 1.5Gb RAM.

I think if you want to use it outside, the MSI will win because it comes with a LED display.

I'd like to see this confirmed in a comparison review.

Yup you're right. Now i want to know how readable these screens are outside and/or with sunlight. if anyone knows, please post.

MSI is doing a bad job at delivery, while Acers are available now, and cheaper. Nice job Acer.
