    I just downloaded AMD dashboard.

With the specs in my MSI 1039
    -turion 64 MT-40 2.2ghz 25W
    -2BG 400DDR 400MHz
    -100GB ATA 100 5400RPM

(so its kinda speced out to the max)

what should my cpu temps be? idle and under extreme gaming? whats ideal and whats the too hot threshhold?

    also what voltage

70-72C seems abit high, on desktops it would be unacceptable. I would think at idle should be high 40s and load low 60s but that is just guess works since I have not seen the cooling setup on that laptop.

Long time stalker, first time poster. I was the one to purchase InsaneClown's 1039, and am very happy with it. Though the wireless card was a bother, anyone else use a RALink card? Problem was fixed with the new drivers.

ANYWAY....After having used my 1039 for just about a month, my temps have been monitored by the HD Tuner program. At idle, my laptop averages 35-38 c or so, and after a couple of hours of Oblivion at good-great settings, it gets up to about 47-50 c.

Along with the 1039, I recieved a small amount of AS5. To try to improve my heat management, I placed AS5 on the cpu and even removed the thermal pad from the gpu and put a good bit on it. Not wanting to waste a perfectly good thermal pad, I took it and put it on one of the other ram chips that had contact with the heat sink.

So far, after a couple hours of Oblivion, I havent seen any 50+ c temps. Though the right hand rest does get a bit warm. Good thing w,a,s,d keys are on the left side, eh?

Where did you get the AMD dashboard?

getting in the seventies during gaming isn't bad. i am surprised that happy owner has such low gaming temps, b/c i have rarely seen notebooks not get up to the 70s during games. i would suggest getting a cooling pad if you haven't already.

    Thanks eli

ya the max temp b4 thermal shutdown for the turion mt-40 is 95c

i guess 70 is not that bad (considering im playing F.E.A.R which is very demanding on your internals... as long as it doesnt get above 75 i quess im fine)

i just ordered the vantec lapcool2 since it blows air up at the bottom of the laptop instead of sucking.. my 1039 sucks air from the bottom so it should be beneficial with the air blowing at it..only thing is, the 1039 is 14.09"x10.2" and the lapcool2 is 11.8"x10.3". :( hope ill be able to use it and the rubber pads on the top of the lapcool2 dont meet up with the fan vent on the underside of the 1039

i know your pain. it's odd that notebook coolers tend to be smaller than 15.4" notebooks, considering that is probably the most sold notebook size. your idle temps seem to be slightly higher than normal. have you checked out chaz's guide for cooling your notebook? i suggest you check it out if you haven't.
