    Okey, I think I will get a 920xm to my MSI or is a 720qm enough to a 7970m?

You can, and you can overclock that.

Unless cash is not an issue, you might be best getting the card and comparing benchmarks to others and seeing if you need more CPU power.

I'm doing this mostly for fun.

    Wow that's great !

Why do you have a TDP of 48 and a Short limit duration TDP of 60W (instead of 45 an 56.5W respectively) ? :p

Can't you flash your hyperx to 1866 as well ? Impressive though ;) Much better than my 2720ES by the looks of it !

I upped the TDPs in the bios. I tried 1866mhz but the ram was not co-operating so I decided to tighten it up at 1600mhz. I've modified most of the sub timings too.

Wait...how and why would you optimize a CPU for a GPU?

Because i get the most out of my system and the gpu deserves a good cpu.

2133k profile forced to run at 1866mhz.

This was added to the kingston 1866mhz profile.

Yes 2133 boots at cl12 but I can't then increase the base clock lol.

Would you mind providing me the link for this spd ?

Did you just force on the BIOS (XMP 1866) then ?

Its one of the standard spds listed in the editor under DDR3 speed bins. I used the "improved kingston 1866mhz" as a base.

    I've attached the final result.

I am not using XMP for this, XMP off and then selecting 1866mhz under the bios.

End of next week, getting a Dell card now.

Going to be testing it on a 2 heatpipe heatsink with some extra copper attached, then a 3 heatpipe version if I run into issues.

Pics of the heatsinks? You just reusing older ones? Can't imagine the dell one would fit in the machine. Assuming it comes with one that is.. I'd imagine there wouldn't be a problem as the 7970M seems to run a bit cooler than previous high end cards which is good.

Even though that's in French, you'll be able to see the key points which are installation (heatsink mod), temps and few benchmarks:
    P4G / [REVIEW] ATI HD7970M + Medion X6813

This card runs pretty cool indeed - a 150W PSU should also do the job.

Isn't a Ivy Bridge 3610 plenty for the 7970m though? From what I've seen the CPU is almost NEVER a bottleneck on the GPU; the CPU could even be dual core and run pretty much anything maxed out in 90% of cases.

It is good to squeeze the most from your CPU though; I mean why not :p

Well i have a 2820qm. Optimising the cpu/mem will help raise minimum frame rates.
