So Webcam is dead, like that, got the super red line on it.

No solution apart from RMA, which is not an option because i work on my machine :)
    MSI, you got me mad..
I tried to find parts, so I just buy another cam and put it myself a weekend, but no.. nothing !

Just turn the laser pointer off! Sorry, just kidding :)

It's an internal component that would be beyond what most of us could easily replace, so an RMA is all you can do. Things break, fail, even brand new. That's why we have warranties.

Can you borrow another machine just for a couple weeks or so while you send it off? Otherwise you could get a clip on webcam I suppose. I never really use mine, only in a pinch to take a picture but nowadays with cell phones there is no point for that either.

    Sorry to hear that.
Did you show this picture to them? What was on the repair report?
Finally, call them up again and request to speak to a supervisor to make sure this is handled properly.

I can't :) I'm actually in a "mission" as a phd student abroad, in the country in which i bought my laptop, the problem is that i can't get another usable laptop to work on (a lot of VM's working and stuff). So i'm trying to find the GT72 webcam board on ebay by myself.
My question is, is it the same for every laptop ? the connector should be the same :) worth trying haha !
Going to order this, 8usd + 12 usd to send it to france.

Actually I didn't contact the repair service because it's going to take a lot of time, and the thing is, I'm using this laptop in the office, (phd student), I have strict schedule for the next 6 monthes.

See if you can order the part so you can do it yourself.
I guess this might be a better solution since there won't be any down time for you.

Actually, I tried to compare the position of the LED activity, so it wasn't correct, I'm still looking for parts :)
I'll find it and try it :) Plus warranty should be already void, repaste + RAM upgrade + SSD install

Warranty should not be void if you upgraded RAM, HDD and repasted.
    Contact the support.

Maybe try just getting an external webcam for the time being until you are able to get it repaired and/or find the correct part you need? Would MSI not sell you the part?

I'm in the second boat except mine is even worst than yours. I'm about to send it to MSI RMA for replacement. Sadly might take up to 25 days to get back.

MSI has about nothing to do with the camera quality - they just use the same OEM manufacturers as about all laptop manufacturers - Bison, Suyin and Chicony for instance.

Their problem :) You pay premium price for a laptop, you expect premium components, they have to control the quality and make the oem respect the standards, had several laptops, never saw a webcam dying in less than a year without any constant usage.

It probably happens very seldom - have seen comments perhaps 2 -3 times; nothing compared to other problems. So the general fail rate is really low but in electronics anything can happen...

No amount of money makes any product immune to the potential of defects. What's important, then, is how an OEM or reseller takes care of its own. It is too bad to hear about the webcam, sasuke. Are you going to send the system to them for service when you are able? Or try to source the camera standalone and replace it yourself?
