So my brother in law just lent me his zalman ZM-NC200 cooler to test out, and when i would try to plug it into the left had side USB slot the computer would instantly turn off. I plug it into the right hand side and it runs fine. I plug my mouse in the left USB slot, and it works fine... Very confused and concerned.

That is just weird. I use a Zalman on my 3-year old ASUS. Never had one problem. I've never even heard of a Zalman causing issues on these boards. They're such wonderful "plug-and-forget" devices. Odd. Wish I could help.

Sounds like a hardware error? Somehow the amount of power going into that USB is unstable?

    And yet your mouse works.

    Confusing!

Maybe the left does not supply enough power due to faulty usb or something?

Exposed wires on the usb cable from the cooler. I touched them and it shut off my laptop. nothing electricians tape can't fix.

I am not... I just tried to switch the cable to the left port, but no power. I switched the cord around so the broken end is in the computer, second i stuck it in my laptop shut off. mouse still works in the left.
