I just got my GT725-074 a couple of days ago and didn't like the MSI rebranding and installation of crapware (Norton, WinRar, etc.). I made ISO images of the recovery disc and burned DVDs as well. In my infinite wisdom, I decided to install a clean copy of Vista. Unfortunately, when I tried to activate it using the Product Key on the bottom of the laptop, it came back with "code is already in use" error. I called Microsoft to activate Vista and they said to contact MSI.

The next bright idea I had was to use the recovery disc to make the laptop as it was when I received it. However, the recovery disc is not working. My question is how can I get MSI to reset the Vista Product Key so that when I reinstall a clean copy of Vista, it works? Who should I contact? I bought the laptop from Amazon.com but I don't think they will provide support for this. Their website is confusing and I am not sure if I should contact Custom Service or Tech Support.

Did you change the internal config at all?

Did you use a OEM version of Vista Home Premium to reinstall?

Even with a blanket license, I've yet to encounter a OEM box that's stock that as long as the OS matches exactly (OEM, Vista XXXX), won't activate with the OEM key.

I had this happen with a MSI after I replaced the mainboard. The install disk wouldn't work anymore. I used a OEM Vista disk and reinstalled with my COA key code. It came back that it was in use. I chose the telephone to reactivate it. It was an all automated call to Microsoft. They asked how many computers were using that COA keycode. Then they gave me a number to type in and my Vista was activated. It took about 1/2 hour to do.

Contacted MSI and got the problem resolved. No change to the internal config at all. The recovery discs were corrupted and that's why that step didn't work.
