    Hi guys,
I just got a MSI GT70 610US Dragon edition today with i7 3630QM, 128GB Super Raid SSD, GTX680m and I have a few questions in mind.

    1. Would I be able to overclock the GTX680m?

    2. Is it possible to upgrade the 3630QM to say, 3920xm?

    3. If I get rid of the win8 for win7 (I just don't like the interface the new Windows) that it came with, does all the driver still work?

    4. Will I still get the super Raid 0 SSD setup if I swap to Win7?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes you can overclock the GPU, as long as you unlock the vbios. There are several vbios circulating for the specific GPU as well as users here who can help you. Read about it and get well versed on the subject before attempting so that you feel more comfortable with it.

    2) Yes you can change your CPU to current Ivy Bridge CPUs. Normally it is not recommended for gaming as there is little performance increase, but if you wish to do so, you can. Keep in mind 3920xm is a higher TDP cpu so it will run a bit hotter than your current one. Gamingwise I would not recommend wasting money for now.

    3) There should be most, if not all, the drivers needed for Windows 7 to downgrade if you wish to do so. GT70 with similar to identical specs was a Win7 machine before 8 launched. Resellers will be able to help you find the drivers, as well as users on the forum.

    4) Yes super RAID is enabled by hardware, so you should have no problems in that regard.

Thanks for replying, there's one more thing that came up when I'm testing the laptop. With the super RAID 0 setup, I'm getting a read speed of 885MB/s and a Write speed of 262MB/s using crystaldiskmark random test. I'm just wondering why the write speed is so low, in fact, I think my single Sandisk extreme SSD in my desktop has the same speed if not faster than the RAID setup. I also read online to see other people's testings and their results are more reasonable than mine.

For example, I found the using google image, scrolling down and his write speed turned out to be 357MB/s

Yes, the 680M is known for being very overclock-able.

Yes it is! If you currently have a 3630QM, then you should have a board with a rPGA/FCPGA type socket. These CPUs are interchangeable, and the xm processor you listed is compatible with that socket.

It's difficult to say, though many Windows 8 drivers still work under Windows 7. Most - if not all - may still function correctly, but no guarantees. ;)

As long as it's enabled, you can still use the Raid 0 setup in Windows 7.

Theoretical speed is up to ~400 MB/s, so while you're a little behind, you're not terribly far off. Which drives do you have installed? And have you tested more than once and compared results?

What do you mean by which drive is install? And yes I tested at least 5 times and the results are pretty much constant. I now installed a fresh copy of Win7 too see the actual performance, but I can already see it being slower than my desktop SSD since it takes more time to boot with nothing installed

Hey, I've updated my results in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi...should-wait-gtx780m-afterall.html#post9197293 I think I will wait for the new gen of laptops. Do you think they will be priced similarly to the current gen? i7 3700MQ with 780M compared to i7 3630QM with 680M?

And I'm just using the intel rapid storage driver thing to check my RAID setup

I just meant which make and model of drives are in your machine. :)

Next gen series/models will have a little more of a markup but probably won't be by much. I haven't come across much news on the 780M as far as release date goes either so it's hard to comment on that, but I can say 3630qm + 680m is a good setup and you're still well future proofed with it.
