Although the U115 manual mentions that the U115 is available with one of three CPUs and either 8GB or 16GB SSD installed, the only model presently available in the U.S. has an Intel Atom Z530 (1.6 GHz) CPU and 8GB SSD. Can't do much about the CPU, but you can upgrade the SSD.

YES!!! The Super-Talent 1.3" form factor, 32GB, naked SSD module (29GB formatted) does work in the MSI Wind U115!! No more "low memory on Drive C:" warnings. Although the SSD is ostensibly for the Acer Aspire One, both Acer and MSI follow the book for 40 pin FFC/FPC clamp style ZIF connectors. I have 2GB of RAM in my U115. (As you probably know, the RAM mod and the SSD mod each void your warranty.)

Not only does the 32 GB SSD work (Super-Talent part no. FEM32GF13M), but I loaded Win 7 RC x86 then MS Office 2007 Pro (all apps) on my new C: drive.

Can you do crystaldiskmark benchmarks of it? Curious to see how well it performs, whether it does achieve 80/40 as per spec. If the small file writes are slow consider the zflashpoint accelerator.

    nando4, I'll run a benchmark after I return from a business trip.

Do you (or anyone) know what the 3.91GB "OEM partition" is for on the HDD?

How did you go about installing the OS..??
Do you need to Ghost the old drive, or just use a standard clean install..??

Havent had a reply.. so I did it my own way.....
I used Acronis TrueImage software (free 30 day trial) to make a bootable USB image of my existing drive, then installed the new 32Gb SSD. Booted off the USB and did a recovery. Worked like a charm - so good that I have now paid up and registered my copy..!!

I opened up my U110-031US and it has the mounting points and ZIF connector for this SSD.

When you purchased this SSD, did it come with the correct cable to hook it up to your U115?

G'Day - the Motherboard and the memory module both have ZIF connectors.
So there was no extra cable needed. To answer your question - NO there was no cable included with the module.

Follow-up. The SuperTalent SSD module has now worked for over a year of heavy use in my U115. It appears to have wear-leveling.... hasn't slowed down appreciably. The U115 is faster than even current netbooks I have tried. That may change when Cedar Trail dual-core netbooks appear in 2011.

Can anyone here tell me what using Windows 7 on the U115 has been like? Specifically, whether or not the button to disable the mechanical hard drive works. Thanks.
