hi guys, I'm looking at getting the GT72, and I *think* I read that MSI will do the donkey work to upgrade the CPU/GPU when new architecture is released. Is this the case, and further if I buy from Amazon (for the 12 months interest free), will they still do that if I buy from a vendor such as Xotic, or do I still need to buy through MSI - or is that offer only available if you buy directly from MSI?

You would need to buy it from a place willing to do the upgrade for you, usually a reseller you bought it from. That or buy the kit and install it yourself
(they even did a handy video: )Last edited: Jun 2, 2015 -

You won't be able to upgrade the CPU on it, just the GPU. I don't know if MSI has said how many generations of GPU upgrades the GT72 will support (or I overlooked it?). But one of the advantages of going through a reseller is they would be able to find out what is available for your model, once upgrades are released.

IIRC it was one for the GT72 and two for the GT80, but then again if it works in the GT80 it is almost certain to work in the GT72 electrically.
