Okay so not trying to be redundant... So if your here about how you CANT upgrade to Pascal go here to post your comments: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...0-gt80s-owners-gpu-upgrade-discussion.795236/
I will talk about the pascal upgrades briefly, since this is more of a "How to upgrade/what are my options" post. But for the main showdown between GT80/72 owners and MSI... Goto the above thread.
This thread will mostly be targeted at users with GT80/70 laptops with a 965m or 970m Graphics solution who wish to upgrade to a 980m Granted, this will not be cheap, or easy. Yes these parts are available on amazon/newegg, but if I were you, I would go here:
http://www.eurocom.com/ec/msi()ec
This site shows you only what is compatable with your system. It also includes the ability to purchase all of the proper cooling components you will need. From what I understand this is also where MSI gets its cards for these laptops however I can not 100% confirm that since my source is not an official MSI source. (Its a local computer shop that stripped down a GT70 and said the MXM cards inside were from Eurocom)
Now, for that bit I said about Pascal.
Yes we were promised by MSI marketing, that we would have 2 generations of upgrade-ability Both through reliable but second hand information like Linus Tech Tips, NCIX, and Awesome Sauce Network, but also through OFFICIAL campaigns and media like the info cards on Newegg.
Im not here to rant about it. Nor is this thread about the current state of affairs. Again goto the linked thread above for that!
But if you want to try to get upgraded to pascal there is hope! If you meet the requirements.
1: Live in the USA
2: Posses a GT80 or GT72
3: Mail before the Oct 31 2016 Deadline.
First download this doc: (this is on my own server since the MSI link is either broken or un-reliable. I got this document directly from MSI via Email)
http://www.naveronasis.com/MSI/MSI GT Trade In Uppgrade program.pdf
Fill it out before OCT31 and Email it to:
[email protected]
This will make you ELIGIBLE for the TBD trade in offer. No immediate action will need to be taken until MSI announces its plan.
The following questions do not have answers, and for that... again... go to the other thread.
1: Cost of this program
2: When it will be announced
3: How long you will have to take advantage
However I would like to offer you advice.
1: Do not upgrade to win10 If you have not yet. If you must win10 buy a separate copy of win10 and backup your win8.1 to another drive.
2: Put aside all accessories for the laptop and take extra care to keep it in mint condition.
3: Buy a portable hard drive and back up all information in case they replace the laptops without transferring data. Or backup your information the the cloud.
Please limit all posts to discussion about performing upgrades. And or about performance before/after.
