Hello just just updated my mxm video card from a gt555m to the gtx560m in my gx780 (now gt780).

The FN keys to increase brightness are now not working and the screen brightness bar in control is not either.

When I installed this new card the MSI 560m drivers would not install at all so I got some from laptop2go with a modded inf and they did install finally.

I dont know where to go from here to get the FN keys going again like they should. Here is a gpuz screen

what exact driver are you using? try the latest one 285.62 from nvidia website, i think theres no need for modded inf.

Also where did you get the GTX 560M? which laptop did it originally come from?

I am using the 285.38 drivers. I got the 560m from ebay brand new.
It seems it has a different video bios I think. I dont know too much about laptop gfx yet.

No go. This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware. That is why I had to use a modded inf. The device ID is different than other 560m's I found.

can you ask the seller for the origin of the card?

You may need to modify a specific inf (MNVI if i remember it right) for the brightness to work.

If you have a chance at getting it to work you'll probably have to update your BIOS to one that supports it, if there is one that supports it. You'll have to check MSI site for that.

in that direction you could try the bios for GT780DX. But make sure to be careful, do it at your own risk and I'm in no way responsible for any damage that would cause.

Well I have already flashed the GT780 bios which is the same as the GX780 anyways. It is seen in the bios. Just seems the drivers don't want to see it unless I use a modded inf. In gpuz it shows the subvendor as Nvidia(10DE) not a usual clevo, msi etc.
Im guess I'll just have to live with it.

im going to sleep now but tomorrow please upload the modded inf that you use. I would try to play around with it or put the GTX 560M stuff in a different file and see if it work. That did it for me when i still use GTX 570M.

Well I got a response back and the 560m was intended for a clevo. The drivers I am using at the moment are:
    Nvidia 285.38 Download L2Go

    Modded Inf - Download L2Go

i take a look at NVMI.inf on both 285.62 and 268.12 (MSI GT683) and they all have the same necessary lines for the GTX 560M. The one ofr 285.62 got a few more in fact.

Do this at your own risk but try ask for someone here with a GTX 560M on MSI machine for their vBIOS and flash it into yours. Again, im not responsible for any damage that may happen but thats the last thing i can think of.

Your card seems to have a different hardware ID or something.
