My projects are never REALLY complete.
I would love a pair of 128GB SSDs in raid 0, but that's going to be a LONG way off lol.
I do have a choice however:
Run with 8GB of 1600mhz 9-9-9-27
or
Run with 12GB of 1066mhz 5-5-5-18
Hmz. -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Ah but the latencies per clock are lower at 1066mhz. I will have to run some tests.
-
Hey Meaker, how easily do you think the GPU could be upgraded in this model? I'm still sad that there aren't any plans for the 16F2 to get the Geforce 570m (officially at least), whereas its flashier cousin the GX680 series is getting it.
I wonder what's the most powerful GPU it could handle? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well the GPU heatsink might need a little modding (though the 5870 heatsink from the GX660 fits easier or so I hear) but the performance of the cooler seems to have room.
I think the performance of the current card is fine however and that I wont be looking at an upgrade until the next gen arrives. -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I doubt mine cost twice as much.
I have the advantage of battery life and CPU power. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Oh and sorry I used the wrong drivers:

So actually I am a couple of points ahead. -
Its a gaming laptops lets see some games <.<
-
yes and you oced your 560m more...but you have lost in most gfx tests anywaydo you want me to run 3dmark with my cpu at 3.33ghz @ all 4 cores ?
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-950 Processor,MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD MS-1727 score: P2601 3DMarks
in this moment you have throwed the glove before me haha -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Hah, my 2720QM stays locked at 3ghz on all 4 cores
You are going to have to go further with yours to get near that.
As for games benchmarks, this is true, I shall have to come back to that tomorrow -
cant wait

What drivers did you switch to?
-
niffcreature ex computer dyke
You have the advantage of
-LED LCD technology
-Newer 16:9 aspect ratio
-Better cooling in a smaller chassis
-Better overall chassis strength
-2nd HDD + ODD
-4 ram slots?
-FUNCTIONAL hinges.
LOL -

Lol Niff, I was being nice -

Tim4, did you swap the GFX in yours?
-
-
Has anyone tried running with 16GB RAM and turning of file swap in WIN 7 ? Let the RAM do the job it's suppose to and use all the RAM available in this unit?

CPU stock settings. I don't understand why it doesn't recognize my CPU.
Max GPU temp with fan on 61C.
The reason why I can't justify upgrading to anything new from MSI. Feel like I need a 6990m or 580m. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well there are advantages in heat and battery life, just not performance.
Can't wait to see if it's easy to add a card from the next gen in. -
I'd say the biggest advantage is in the heat of the CPU, besides that my laptop stays nice and cool. My 920xm games in the mid to high 70s. The improve battery life is nice, but not necessary for me yet since it sits on my desk all day connected to a power supply. That might change for me soon, and I will be looking for some better battery life.
Better score --->>>

Oh and I still get a higher CPU score lol.
-
Can the 2720 OC? What speed are you running it at?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No it can't.
It runs:
3.3ghz (1 thread)
3.2ghz (2 threads)
3.0ghz (4-8 threads)
It only goes below 3ghz when power saving or running a silly load like lin-X, though being an ES it seems it's 8 thread turbo speed may be higher than the normal version (plus I have the full 8MB of cache). -
Hi guys,
I would like to upgrade my CPU as well for an i7 (currently have a i5-2410m) but I am concerned by the difficulty to replace it. I have a Medion X6813, HM67 chipset which I think could easily fit a 2720 up to 2920xm ES from Ebay.
Is this task straight forward ? What advices would you give me ?
(I might open a thread for that)
Meaker,
What CPU did you have at first ?
Where did you get this 2720qm ES from ? For how much ?
Medion X6813 - i5-2410m - 2x2go Hyundai@1333 - GTX460m@830/1640 v285.27 - M4 128go SSD -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The machine was a barebone, but I installed a 2310M as a temp before.
It's easier than a desktop a awkward cooler. Look up a guide.
I got it off ebay for around £115. -
Wow really quick answer!
I'm quite lucky as you have exactly the same model as mine, just Medion supplied it.
You have Intel HM67 or 65 tho ?
I already replaced the HDD->SSD but I think replacing CPU is a bit more difficult.
Tried to look up for some guides but couldnt fine one any where.
Have you done it on your own without looking at some guide or tutorial ?
Thanks bud!

Mine is HM67.
Well you know how to open the hatch then.
Make sure you have some decent thermal paste (I recommend arctic silver MX-4)
Just remove the fan cable and screw holding down the fan (right in the corner) and take the fan out. Remove the 3 screws holding down the heatsink, lift it up to an angle and then pull it out.
Turn the lock on the socket to release the CPU and take it out, pop the new one in and turn the lock back on (very important to remember that).
Clean your heatsink and apply a very small (grain of rice) sized blob on the CPU of thermal paste.
Put the heatsink back in the reverse of the actions to take it out. Screw the screws in the order they are listed, half of 1, half of 2, half of 3, finish screwing 1, then 2 then 3 (better contact if you do half of each first). -
Thank you very much !
Will try that when get the new CPU !
Btw, you get the ES version, on CPU-Z, what is it shown 1st and 5th line ?
From what I read in this thread, it seems your 2720qm is quite great.
Any 3dmark 2006 or other benchs tests?

You need to read the first post, there are a few other benchmarks too.
-
Just had a look at your 3dmark scores and was wondering about your 560m overclock: what is your voltage ? 0.95V? How hot do you get at the maximum after playin games ? If you could post your GPU-Z it would be helpful !
Thanks

GTX560M default voltage is 1V (part of why it clocks higher than the 460M)
I have since found 900/1800/1800(3600) is not quite stable for games (no crashing but some artifacts) so have dropped to 875/1750/1800(3600)
It does however run furmark fine at 900 core clocks though, so just goes to show you need to test several apps to be sure. My sample is a little poor compared to others, though I have no idea how much stability testing they have done. My max temps in furmark are the very low 80s. -
Haha, can't wait to get my 920xm to challenge you
At least my HD5870m is still flexing it's muscles, despite my puny CPU
so when I get my new cpu I shall OC even further to break the 10K vantage GPU score haha.
And those are very nice speeds for the 2720, I thought it had lower speeds than what you got, so you have quite a beast!
And didn't you buy an HD5870m or something like that, that could be OCd a lot? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I did but it was DOA
My 2720QM is an ES, it has the full 8MB of cache and stays at 3ghz even up to 8 threads! -
hey do you keep your score with the stock CPU? I just want to see the gap between the stock one and the ES 2720QM
-
at any rate, 3ghz quad core with full 8MB cache is a great thing. Let's see if I can compete with my (hopefully soon) 920xm. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
There will be a bug or two, but they are not likely to be show stoppers and it's not doing any important work.
I am just slightly sad my 560M does not clock better....
I did not have a stock CPU since my unit is a barebones. I had a 2310M for a little while but comparisons with it are a bit unfair. -
Oh my bad, i was under the impression that your laptop come stock with a 2630QM
-
And your 560m clocks well enough, you have 900mhz core from 775mhz stock right? That's good. You basically mached my 900mhz scores of my HD5870m! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I have to drop it to 875mhz to be 100% stable.
Unleashed. 16F2 now with 2720QM.
