    Hey all,

Have any of you experimented with your vBios to undervolt the HD5870M on battery? .90v is high for some GPUs, was only a year ago that some were over overvolting to .90v. Was thinking an undervolt would increase battery life on the HD5870M. 100/150 core/memory clocks I suspect do not require or need .90v.

Has anyone tried this? I'm asking here since I don't see much point in undervolting the HD5870M in an Alienware or Clevo since those have such pathetic battery performances it's not even worth even asking.
    - And G73jh while admirable 2 hour battery, vBios still beta stage.

But with the MSI GX660, GX740 etc, thought this maybe a worthy experiment.

    Thanks

Can you verify that the undervolt is actually working? Just read that the HD5870M volt cannot be changed by softmodding, it has to be done by hardware. Meaning even if you change it with RBE, volt settings aren't doing anything since the voltage is determined by hardware.

I haven't found a single piece of software yet that can read the voltage of the HD5870M, so you may have to verify by actually taking readings.

    The undervolt with Vbios works.

You have to see and feel it :)
Trust me, you will see it at the temperature drop.
The 5870m of the G73s is known to restrict the voltage mods to 0,95 and 1,15V. But 700/1000 isn't running very well at 0,95V also. :p

You can check your current voltage by the orb gpuobserver gadget.
This gadget just reads the bios setting. Idk any other tool to read this value.

Interesting. Thanks for replying, very nice undervolting! 38C is awesome.

42-46°C idle is more serious with stock cooling.
    I've done some mods :)
    Look here.
