I tried and tried to get Mint 6 to work on my new MSI GT725-074US with no luck. I went ahead and tried the new Ubuntu 9.04 and it booted up easy as could be. Installed the video drivers and downloaded flash player and all works great! It was super easy to customize the desktop as well. So far, so good! :D
I think that Mint had difficulty with the 4850 video card. Ubuntu had no problem at all and the driver updated pulled up the ATI driver and was super easy to install. Had to download flash player to get online video working, other than that it has been very easy to navigate so far.

Hmmm... and why do you do that? - Ubuntu does not require a powerfull card. It's very good OS, but it's waste of graphic power there. You have to be very professional orientated to do so. But still I don't know what programs you can use on ubuntu, so to feel satisfied of the capabilities of the card.

Yeah, they updated the OSS radeon drivers for 9.04 so I suspected that the normal GUI install would now work. (I did an 8.10 install but had to use the alternate install disk + add in catalyst to get X11. Mint probably hasn't been updated to 9.04 Ubuntu base yet....)

Upgrade from 8.10 -> 9.04 went pretty good. One little minor problem was the updater crapped out after downloading all of the packages but forcing it to shut down then re-run it detected the cached packages then ran the update fine.
