today i found a dell released firmware 100% compatible with our optiarc drives. it was released in june as a update to ready for win7. the drive works MUCH better now and i dont have near the issue with cheap cd media skipping i did before after burns. this is mostly a media comp update but i also notice the drive is much quieter also when burning. the version is sd05

Hmm, I've got this drive in my GT725, but my firmware is SX01. What was yours before the update?

sx01 also but has many issues with cheaper media, sx01 is VERY OLD this one is newer than even the optiarc's own sx07 version (which had a lot of problems). used this one 5 of these drives now and not a single issue with it

Any other issues, folks, like in movie/audio playback, noise, burning, coaster, read/write, speed, etc?

Moreover, is that Dell firmware a generic or OEM firmware that universally works with all Optiarc AD-7560S? Reason for asking is that the firmware from Sony does not flash with non-VAIOs.

    Thanks in advance.
