So, I'm guessing that for extreme CPU speed the highest-end turion is going to be much more affordable than the highest-end Pentium M, which makes an MSI turion laptop seem like a good choice... It looks like the Turion MT-40 @ 2.2GHz/1MB L2 is the fastest "MT" type turion that's been released yet.

(There do seem to be faster amd processors if higher power consumption is OK; I see that HP apparently are the only ones offering the ML-44 @ 2.4GHz/1MB L2 and that gateway has the mX7525 with the Mobile athlon 4000+ @ 2.6GHz / 1MB L2...this processor is also available on pricewatch it looks like.)

    Anyway, my questions are these:

    1. Some, but not all online resellers offering MSI systems list the MT-40 as currently unavailable...does anyone know when more supplies will become available?

    2. Does anyone have info as to when the MT-44 will become available? AMD processor roadmaps say "Q1 2006" but if it's going to be within the next few weeks I'd definitely like to get a system with one.

    Thanks!

Dunno about the release date for the MT-44 but MT-40s are totally dried up in the channel. You might want to double check with any reseller that does not stipulate it is out of stock before ordering. There are more than a few that will be happy to take your order and just delay delivery until the components come in rather than being forthright about availability. Others might just happen to keep a larger inventory on hand and may simply still have some.

Thanks for the tips; I'll definitely keep that in mind when it comes time to pull the trigger.
