Somebody had a case like this:
When you swich the Turbo on, nothing happens. I'm using Vista Ultimate x64, the Turbo icon appears on the screen indicating that is on, but neither CPUz, neither any other program detects that there is an actual increase of the frequinces. Is it possible this one to be because I've set in BIOS the DDR devider to be 800MHz (3:2), by default, before flashing the latest BIOS it was set to 667MHz (5:4)? Any ideas?
-
have you checked the cpu while under stress? the cpu will nit show a increase unless it needs it. if not it will downclock to a slower speed.
-
I test it, but i think that i didn't do it well. I run Orthos and wile running I've switched on/off turbo. Then nothing happend, only the icon, as I said. I'm @ work now, when I go home I will test it after I turn it on first. But this one I think is not the reason...
-
@ Zfactor
Isn't Turbo work in the following way: When you switch it on - it incereases the FSB with the % given in BIOS, neither if you need that power or not? -
it still will drop back down though if it doesnt need it. you can actually watch the multi change. even in turbo mode. but yes you should see the fsb increase no matter what should be 1235 or so at 15%. i just checked i have my ram locked to 800 and it works fine
-
YOU NEED TO REFLASH BIOS WITH FLASH.BAT. I HAD SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME . AFTER FLASH REMOVE BATTERY & POWER CORD. THEN PUT BACK IN BATTERY. t9600 OVERCLOCK TO 2.9 GHZ 16%OVER
-
Errr, did you plug the power cord?
I think it only runs on power cord... -
Just check using CPU-Z, even at idle, when you hit the turbo button, the overclocked lowest speed is great than the underclocked lowest speed. For eg on my T9400, the idle speed goes from ~1500MHz to ~1700MHz. And when I stress it, it goes from 2.53GHz to ~2.9GHz. Hope that helps.
-
NO, IF I HIT TURBO. 2.9 ghz off the bat, has per.cpu-z
-
Err? F@##you
-
You were actually asked a legit question.
The laptop models I read about, Turbo only works when the laptop is running from the AC adapter. -
-
Ofcourse I've pluged it in. Othervise the button is not working.

Rep Power: 3 MSI 1722 DIY 17" notebook quick review
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I bought one of these from Ocon and it arrived brand new and sealed Friday.
Newest BIOS (1.0S 2/16/09): http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...5&prod_no=1521
Newest Firmware (4.29 1/20/2009): http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...5&prod_no=1521
I spent the evening setting it up with parts-a-palooza for a client and it runs great. All components installed are top shelf.
Current config:
Intel QX9300 Quad-Core OEM CPU (2.26ghz x 4, Penryn 1066mhz FSB, 12mb cache)
Intel 5300 full length mini-pci
4gb G.Skill DDR2-800 ram (2x2) low latency performance memory
WD Scorpio 320gb 7200rpm 16mb cache
XP Pro OEM license
A few notes:
The 1722 100% supports XP and Vista. There is a complete suite of combo drivers on MSI's page. Most GX720 drivers work for the 1722.
The 1722 is configured with three antenna wires for full N support.
The GX720 BIOS/Firmware works with the 1722 (Thanks Rob from RK)
The 1722 Supports 4gb DDR2 SODIMMS x 2, so the unit CAN support 8GB of memory. I just swapped in a pair I had. It fully registers the whole 8GB and it booted fine
The unit shipped with the 1.0H BIOS. BEWARE: If you're trying to install a quad-core or newer Dual-Core CPU, you will need to update your BIOS or your system will
either not register the CPU or freeze on the post screen. I swapped out the Q9100 and put in a T9400 and it booted fine. I tracked down the official 1722 1.0R (January
2009) BIOS and the Q9100 booted up fine after that.
Contrary to popular belief, the 1722 supports full length and half length Wifi Mini-PCI cards and has three antennae leads for full support.
There is a single HD bay that supports a standard 2.5" SATA HD.
The unit ships with no DVDRW drive. You need to order it seperately (or just do a USB install).
You will need:
DVD Super-Multi Drive Part#: 957-1722E-001 (~$48-85 online)
Blu-Ray Drive Part#: 957-1722E-002 (~$215-335 online)
Pics and specs of actual drive part: http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...13#post4470313
These come with the GDDR3 version of the 9600M GT.
The 9600m gt is in a MXM-II card config, so it is upgradable.
The cooling system is separate for the GPU/CPU with a shared dual fan exhaust system. The heatsink/copper pipe for the GPU is real beefy
General Impressions:
I played WoW for 2hrs on it just to get the temps up (and give it a nice break in period). Not only were the fps really decent compared to my old HDX18t (9600m gt DDR2) due to the DDR3 and the lower resolution, but the temps maxed at 67 on the GPU and ~70 on the CPU. Idle temps are great: 40-41 on the CPU cores and 52 on the GPU. The fan is decently quiet. The plus for this system is the sheer amount of open space for the GPU and CPU to breathe. I was a little concerned because the heatsink for the CPU was smaller than expected but it cools the Quad-Core acceptably.
3Dmark06 = 5721
- SM 2.0 = 2219
- SM 3.0 = 2060
- CPU = 3777
Unit is lighter than expected. ~7.5lbs, which is decent on a 17" Notebook with this expandability and power.
Keyboard is decent with minimal to no flex which is nice.
Build quality is solid. Screen opens via counterweight versus latch (like the HDX18t and some newer models)
The screen is nice. It is identified as a SEC4447 under Device Manager. No dead pixels (but as always, YMMV), nice and crisp SXGA+ (1650x1050)
Overall, not a bad unit for the price, decent gaming performance and the DIY aspect and expandability is a welcome addition.

Ok I try once more...
By the way I know how to flash BIOSI did every thing correctly (as mentioned above). One more thing ECO is working. But lets see what will happen after next reflash
-
MINE HAS INTERNET EXPLORE BUTTON , AFTER FLASHING BIOS & FIRMWARE ,
INTERNET EXPLORE BUTTON BECAME TUBRO BOTTON. GOOD LUCK -
Yes it's excatly IE button. And is it OK on your mashine?
Because I can say I've tryed everything: flashed firmware, bios, uninstalled and installed SCM .... still nothing. -
SECOND TIME I FLASHED BIOS I USED (FLASH.BAT "SPACE" 1722IMS.10S) EI BUTTON BECAME TUBRO. -
wait genna which bios are you using to flash with? and which keyboard fimrware?
-
you should be flashing with this bios: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=7278&type=bios
this firmware: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=firmwarefile&dno=7279&i=0
and using this system control: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=8465&type=utility
you use the gx720 versions not the 1722 ones. is this what you are doing?
and follow my guide to make a bootable usb stick. reboot to it and use the flash command for the bios, the ecall command for the firmware and then reinstall the system control in windows. -
-
-
It works on my Windows Server 2008 x64 (Basically vista sp1 without some features)
-
-
A few days back in preparation for the install I downloaded the drivers, Bios and firmware updates from MSI for the GX720.
After the updates my Turbo button (or IE button) now functions as a Turbo button. -
I just upgraded to the latest GX720 bios and firmware on my 1722 Id1 ... is there any way to access the OC function without the OC / ECO switches being present?
-
Just to say. Everything is OK!
Where the misstake was? - I was using the correct BIOS and firmaware files, but the reason was in me. Since I'm flashing BIOS-es from a long time, I was doing it in the old fashioned way. I mean I started exactly the BIOS and FirmWare flashing utilities (AFU414sD.EXE, ENEFLASH.exe), read all the instructions (/?) and flashed my PC. I didn't thought at all to check what the other 2 files are doing (flash.bat and ECALL.BAT). Never crossed my mind that people might do the flashing easy for beginners.
Thank you all for repplies. -
glad it worked for you. lol told ya to use the flash and ecall commands..

@ ThunderDunck and alitunay
I really don't think so. You need to ask a programmer, may be?!? -
-
-
-
I didn't test the max setting yet. Now I'm using defaul BIOS settings - 16% overclock and the CPU goes to 3085 MHz (308.5x10). With this 16% overclock my memory goes from DDR2 667 to DDR2 770. I'm limited only from my memory now (DDR2 800). I don't know yet how far it can go. Is there DDR2 1066 memory for laptop? I hope from MSI to make new revision of their BIOS and to put more memory dividers.
I'll restart and check +20% settings. BRB -
very nice indeed and great temps also there
-
Thanks Z!
Arctic Silver 5 everywhere - CPU, North Brige and GPU.
Now I think I can start gaming!!! -
be very careful putting as5 on the northbridge usually the gap is to thick for paste you should leave the pads on the northbridge it does look like your chipset is getting pretty hot in there, cpu is fine though
-
Yes, I've noticed, but it was too late
I had to bend the heatpipe to fit on the north brige. Now looks a litle ugly, but it works perfectly.
Don't you think that with this clock the temperature is still high? - 90C. Not OC - 50-65C, idle - 38/39C
Turbo is not working?!?
