Just bought my first laptop (MSI A6005) and think I made a mistake. Didn't even occur to me that it wouldn't come with a scrolling touchpad?

I've done some poking around and there seems to be NO WAY to compel this thing to have a scroll touchpad?

    Are they kidding me here?

Praying I have some setting wrong? This thing is only hours out of the box and already I'm having serious buyer's remorse.

Where did you test that? I mean what application. I know that there are some applications that do not support the scroll option of touchpads. I can't believe that there even can be such touchpad. So it has to be an option somewhere.

check the hardware id of the touchpad (eg: ACPI\SYN101A) and compatible ids (look in device manager) and report back.

Try installing Synaptics drivers from their website (but first check if it really is Synaptics hardware).

Synaptics ps/ps2 port device is what is listed. I downloaded the driver from the MSI Forum but still no scroll by rubbing or tapping touchpad. Also have a free- range cursor that sometimes bounces to a random previous point in text while typing.

TIA for any assistance. So far I like everything but touchpad which is, of course, a pretty major issue.

    Namaiki, Thank you!

Win 7, path above, = "unable to install Synaptics driver ..." and related error message.

I can see under components that the last driver is listed as 7/2009 - not moments ago so the driver must be the issue?

So, nothing under "Control Panel-> Mouse-> Device Settings-> Settings"?

To install the driver, you might have to uninstall the current one first.

    Again, thank you.

First it gives me the "unable to open" message but then DID show the mouse info. It indicates a ps2 mouse plugged into port, working properly (uggthere is no mouse currently plugged in).

I got the uninstall driver message but it said I would lose my pointer on restart. So how do I use it then to get it reloaded? Such a novice that going pointerless - even momentarily - scares me!

Generally the default PS/2 mouse driver will load in place when you uinstall the touchpad driver.

bagibenny, thanks but I've tried downloading new drivers twice in the last 12 hours to no avail. It SAYS "installed" but there is no change in performance and when I view the properties of the touchpad it lists a driver dated 7/2009.

Okay, I chose the uninstall driver popup option. Restart and find that it STILL lists that July 09 driver.

Clearly it's operator error. There must be more here that I'm just not seeing!

Right-click My Computer-> manage-> device manager-> expand mice-> right-click synaptics-> uninstall-> tick delete. Try that, though I have a feeling you just said you did.

Thanks. It finally did disappear I suppose, replaced by the standard mouse driver you mentioned. I reinstalled the previously downloaded Syn driver toet absolutely no change in performance.

Telephone local merchant who sold it to us to hear "not all laptops support scrolling."

Are they kidding me here? That seems like fairly valuable information to make available to a consumer (they have a small but reputable shop. We played with a display model but then they recommended an upgrade to this model so, as it turns out, what we played with and what we purchased were not the same. It simply never occurred to me that something so crucial as scrolling was not entirely standard to all!

It's like picking up the new car you ordered to hear "Reverse? Oh no this one doesn't come with reverse. Sorry for your loss!"

Meanwhile, totally stupid question I'm sure but while the giant sticker on the notebook says msi A6005 the actual device specs say it is a Model cx600. Any idea why that would be?

Under my synaptics options there is a setting to determine the width/area of the virtual scroll location:

Do you not have this option?

No, nothing that says "touchpad." I have mouse / pointer. That's it. I'm not even 100% sure at this point that the thing is a Synap or if it's just recognizing the driver it has no intention of using ;-)

I'm going to stop in at the merchant today and have them take a look (one of the many benefits of buying locally - I hope).

I appreciate all the input and assistance. I can't thank you enough and will report back what they have to say. Should be interesting.

My money's on operator error ;)

Thanks again for all the assistance - it was very much appreciated.
According to the merchant - this notebook does not support scrolling. You use arrows or the mouse, period. They are allowing us to return it.

Thanks again, I posted this follow-up in case this is archived and might assist someone else.

Well I'm not convinced. Software should allow you to assign various areas of the touchpad to scroll buttons, just like you can remap keys on the keyboard or mouse buttons. Now its going to bother me, I'll see if I can dig up anything tomorrow.

Sometimes MSI laptop used "sentelic" touchpad, instead of synaptic.
After installed the sentelic driver, my MSI X410 got a weird scroll function finally.
    Hope it may help.

Thanks Gingerbaby (and all). Some online research + retailer both agree that apparently this model MSI cx600/A6005 does not support scrolling.

I love the notebook so far. Great keyboard - feels great. So if anyone is reading this and doesn't mind arrows/mouse to scroll up and down - I'd highly recommend. I don't think its a bad computer - I just really want touch scrolling as a personal choice.

You are welcome. I reckon your A6005 should have scroll function as my X410 does. So sad that I don't have the power to post the link for you because I am a newbabe in this forum.
