I know this has been mentioned before, but , I've had my GX640 for less than a week, and I've used the touchpad sparingly (I mainly use a BT mouse), but the coating is already fading. I thought is was just smudging from oily fingers but no, the actual coating on the touchpad is fading and getting glossy. I'm not going to go crazy over this but c'mon MSI, I paid good money for this. I've owned at least 10 laptops and none of them had this degree of wear on the touchpad happen so quickly.

Should have done your homework before buying.

How many threads you guys gonna create to complain about ? Or to discuss useless stuff ?

There's the official Gx640 lounge , use it.

If you've seen my other posts, I mostly defend this laptop based on it's performance versus it's shortcomings. I don't think it's useless to discuss these things. But what do I know? Sorry I offended you so much with my op.

I'm not offended and you don't need to say sorry either. I Just don't see the point in creating a new thread just to say "I have crappy touchpad" .. As there's loads of Gx640 thread already , some users even been cross posting. It wasn't meant straight at you , just a general message to every owner.

If my reply was too much straight forward for your linking , then I appologize.

And like I said , there's an official thread , these can easily be discussed there.

The thing is i dont think its a touchpad wear down, i think its meant to season purposefully to the glossy texture, looking at mine now it blends perfectly with my blacks (Worn) and no loss of tracking.

You are right, I should have posted in the owner's lounge. I see what you mean now, nobody wants the forum to get flooded and confusing. I'll post things like this in the more specific section like the owner's lounge in the future. Cataclysm, I see what you're saying, another poster actually used some car wax to make the whole thing shiny instead of having one shiny spot. I'll probably do that.

Have a look at www.skinstyler.com , they does custom touchpad protectors.

I did a "Gseries" for mine , pretty kool.

Hey Dead, I just ordered one myself. Do you have any pic of yours? I just used a MSI G series wallpaper I found on the web and I ordered it sized 78x48mm.

I screw up on my sizing , it was little bit too big :p

EDIT: 86x54mm . Yours should be good I think.

This is on every MSI model using this chasis, it just looks like crap after a few weeks of use.
    No big deal.

Can anyone confirm those measurements? I'm thinking of ordering one but my GX640 is in RMA for the speaker issue.

I disagree. It's just the touchpad we're talking about. The rest of the chassis looks durable. The brushed aluminum looks like it will look great for a long time because, well, it's just brushed aluminum and not some clear-coated plastic than can wear off. And the red trim is actually red colored plastic, not red paint. I guess only time will tell though.

i think he said the touchpad issue is with every laptop that has used this chassis previously.
