*First of all: NO DESKTOP answers please. I am going to travel a lot so I'm getting a laptop.

My local store ran out of the ASUS G53/G73 laptops so I was forced to find a new laptop to get, I asked my guild, and one replied about the MSI gaming series and I saw the GT780x-i5185+(THX) model.

I was wondering if these specs can run the game on high/max settings and would it have playable FPS

    MSI GT780x-i5185+(THX)
Intel® Core™i5-2410M (new) 2nd gen. CPU (DUAL CORE ONLY )
    NvidiaGTX 560M 1.5GB
    8GB Ram

Please feed back on this. I'm concerned especially with the processor if it would be enough to let me fight at Ilum or go to other crowded areas of the game.

If anyone knows about the cooling of this laptop please do tell as well as I am curious (since I know the ASUS G series has 2 fans at the back) I'm wondering how this laptop fares at cooling the system since I might play for a long session. Thank you

There are a lot of custom laptop builders around, check out places like xoticpc.com and gentech or others to price a custom build. Also, in a few months there are new GPUs and CPUs coming out that might be worth the wait depending on your budget.

I haven't played it, but I've heard the game is poorly optimized (Like many current gen mmos) and you will like have lag issues at times no matter what you play on. I've seen people say their older pc's play it smoother than brand new machines.

I would get something with at least a gtx 570m if you can swing it. Processor shouldn't be a huge issue.

I don't know that the 560m would be able to max out the settings but I do know that the 570m would. I don't know if you've heard of the MSI Barebones systems but they are the same thing, except they don't have all of the flashy LED stuff. It's just a plane black chassis but you can usually get more for your money. You can still customize them with the Steelseries backlit keyboard that changes colors if you'd like.

Also, keep in mind, most MMO's are very CPU taxing so upgrading to the i7 will help out.

Here is a link to one. I don't know how much you were spending on that 560m system but the 570m is a big upgrade over it.

I can't go to custom builders since I am from the Philippines and shipping isn't actually a great idea for me.

    @jrwingate6
nice model too bad the local stores here doesn't have that. I was more concerned about the i5-2410m. However, I also read that the 560m will definitely not put the game at PERFECT settings, however would it produce playable FPS?

I didn't know you weren't in the states. Sorry man. Anyhow, yes the 560m will definitely handle The Old Republic. You could probably play it with most of the settings on Max. Might just need to tone down Shadows and AA.

I'm playing SWTOR on high except shadows set to minimum at 1600x900 no problem on a 2.5 year old Dell XPS 16 with a ATI 4670m. In other words the game isn't very demanding, and your graphics power in that lappy is much stronger than mine.

amazon isnt such a bad place fellow countryman. (a lot of pinoy residing in the philippines usually opt to buy there) ^_~ . Also if you have some one living in US. you can have them buy for you. With the price that you are going to pay for that i5 + GTX560m in Phil, you might as well just buy a Barebone GT 780 with i7 + GTX570M in the US and have it shipped here, or better yet, upgrde to GTX580M. Just my 2 cents. :D

As nido23 said, you need to ask someone (relative, friend, etc) whom you can ask to buy the laptop for you and hand-carry it to you.

Exactly my case. And I'm pinoy too.

ive got the 012us, and the game is pretty poorly optimized, You can literally delete one assets file that causes certain effects to not work like lightsabers and target circles, but never drop below 60fps on ultra with my 560m. keep that asset file and the game will unload certain assets from memory, and when it needs them again 30 seconds later it literally stops the game to load the files. Which is causing the lag, so seemingly randomly it drops to under 15fps for like 5 seconds every other minute or so. SSD's seem to help obviously with their faster read speeds. As well as some people have resorted to using their massive amounts of ram to create a ram disk and load the asset files directly from them.

Basically the engine for the game isnt currently capable of using more then 4gb of ram, and it unloads to many assets to preserve room for other things. And the huge flaw is that whenever the game has to page an assets file it literally shuts the game down for a microsecond to load the files. Check the literally 5000 pages of posts on the SWTOR forums. Its basically completely unplayable in some parts. My recommendation, learn how to Ram Disk, or get an SSD at the minimum.

well, there are a number of reasons why it's really bad to have high ticket items to be shipped here in the Philippines if not done correctly or if you did not use the correct shipping method/forwarder.

then there's the issue of warranty, if there's a problem and bought it from a reseller here we'll have to ship the laptop back to them for repair and ship it back here after (that process alone could cost about 400-450$)

so it's really a big risk.

@op: would be easier for us to give a recommendation if you have a specific store or website to buy from?
