Ok, so I upgraded my GPU to the GTX 980M and I repasted both my CPU and my GPU. I repasted my CPU because I couldn't seem to get fricken heatsink out without taking out both... Well I repasted with Antex Forumla 7 Diamond. I liked the idea of using diamond, because of the great temps that IC Diamond gives people. BUT, I can't bring myself to buy it because of the weird thing their CEO said about digging up dead grandmothers and shooting them and stuff... just weird yo!
So my issue is, my temps are pretty high on the card. The CPU temps are great, but when I game on normal the normal fan profile, my temps shoot up past 80C and sometimes hit 85C. Even with full on fans I am getting anywhere between 77C and 80C and from what I am reading on the forums, nobody is getting temps that high. I also don't seem to be seeing a decrease in temperature over time like I usually see on burn in. So, my result is that Antec 7 is awesome for the CPU but is crap for the GPU.
What I would like to know is what do you paste your GPU with? I don't really want to buy IC Diamond, but I will if I have to... I have been researching alot of different pastes and I have heard great things about IC Diamond, Coollabratories Ultra, Gelid GC Extreme.
Your thoughts are welcomed...
EDIT:
Oh and there is my good old friend Arctic Silver 5 and I have been hearing good stuff about Ceramique and Arctic Alumina...

Use Gelid Extreme... I used it on my Hotwel extreme earlier. It is a great thermal grease to both processor and graphics card. it is on the same level as IC7 only slightly easier to apply and remove. If you are not so easily startled you can use Liquid ultra. "It is the best you can get" when it comes to low temperature and lasting...

Buy IC Diamond 7. It won't hurt. I just applied it 3 weeks ago. I had temperatures reaching up to 93C on both CPU and GPU when gaming, even with v-sync on. That was with stock thermal paste. Now with IC Diamond applied, my max tempature hits 78C with fan on max and around 61C to 70C with fan on normal speeds and usage . These are with games like BF4, Tomb Raider, NFS: Rivals, Alien Isolation, NBA 2k2015, and MGS 5 Ground Zero. Your temperatures will go high based on your GPU settings for games. I always take Anti-Aliasing off because its pointless to me. Use the dot method on GPU and line method on CPU (if its rectangular). On idle my CPU and GPU are around 41C to 50c with IC Diamond, whereas it was 55C to 65C idle stock paste.

Geez 55C-65C idle is HOT! Good thing you got that under control! -
So I repasted with GC Extreme. I started a Burn in with Furmark and temps went to 77C. I then quit about half way through because it was holding steady there. I then ran Unigine Valley Benchmark and looped it for about 15 minutes. Temps reached 78C, then ... they started to drop and then stayed at 74C. This was without fans on max. So, so far this GC Extreme is working better. I will post any changes I find. -

EDIT:
AMD makes some amazing desktop cards, but there main board chips are hot and my 4.2 Ghz 8 core can't compete with most of Intel's 3.0 to 3.5 ghz cards. Why AMD why? You used to put out such great desktop chips at half the price! I hear that will be changing though some bigwigs from Apple just came over to AMD and are promising some big changes...
Another Edit:
Apparently when Directx 12 hits, the FX-8350 is going to finally shine as it will uitilize 6 cores with direct lanes to the GPU! Hopefully, by the time they refine it, it will take advantage of all 8 cores... Maybe this is why Intel is pushing more cores out now... I really like my GT72 but it gets god awful loud when gaming and i'm only hitting 70c when the fans turn on full blast and won't spin back down at all even when it goes below 57-62c. -
