Ok, so I upgraded my GPU to the GTX 980M and I repasted both my CPU and my GPU. I repasted my CPU because I couldn't seem to get fricken heatsink out without taking out both... Well I repasted with Antex Forumla 7 Diamond. I liked the idea of using diamond, because of the great temps that IC Diamond gives people. BUT, I can't bring myself to buy it because of the weird thing their CEO said about digging up dead grandmothers and shooting them and stuff... just weird yo!

So my issue is, my temps are pretty high on the card. The CPU temps are great, but when I game on normal the normal fan profile, my temps shoot up past 80C and sometimes hit 85C. Even with full on fans I am getting anywhere between 77C and 80C and from what I am reading on the forums, nobody is getting temps that high. I also don't seem to be seeing a decrease in temperature over time like I usually see on burn in. So, my result is that Antec 7 is awesome for the CPU but is crap for the GPU.

What I would like to know is what do you paste your GPU with? I don't really want to buy IC Diamond, but I will if I have to... I have been researching alot of different pastes and I have heard great things about IC Diamond, Coollabratories Ultra, Gelid GC Extreme.

    Your thoughts are welcomed...

    EDIT:
Oh and there is my good old friend Arctic Silver 5 and I have been hearing good stuff about Ceramique and Arctic Alumina...

Use Gelid Extreme... I used it on my Hotwel extreme earlier. It is a great thermal grease to both processor and graphics card. it is on the same level as IC7 only slightly easier to apply and remove. If you are not so easily startled you can use Liquid ultra. "It is the best you can get" when it comes to low temperature and lasting... :D

I do hear great things about CL Ultra and I have a tube of Gelid Extreme coming in the mail, but I might send it back and get the CL ultra. The problem I found with the Antec Formula 7 is that when you first apply it. Temps are LOW. But after stress testing, benchmarking and playing games the temps begin to rise and rise and rise. I DONT like that at ALL!!! It's supposed to be the opposite. Your temps should get lower as you burn in... I think it might have something to do with it's light viscosity. It is a lighter paste and when i bought it, considering that it is supposed to have diamonds, I expected it to be thicker than it was. It almost seems like when it is on it is thick and as it heats up it dribbles out the sides and the GPU gets hotter. It's doing great with the CPU, but the GPU temps are sh**. So I just repasted and tried an X fashion application as it usually has good results and I did a furmark burn in and it was at 67C. I was thinking YEAH! I must have screwed up last time, but no, Ran a game/benchmark then the temps rose to 75C. So I ran the Valley Benchmark and temps topped out at 77C so I though ok... this should work, then I ran a game again and then furmarked it again and it topped out at 80C WTF? I mean really? So ... Antec 7 is crap and I need a new TIM, which was why I opened this post. The GC Extreme will be hear tomorrow so I will repaste then and see what happens. I also suspect I might have a bit of a gap between my chip and cooler... That would suck and I might need to copper shim it.

Buy IC Diamond 7. It won't hurt. I just applied it 3 weeks ago. I had temperatures reaching up to 93C on both CPU and GPU when gaming, even with v-sync on. That was with stock thermal paste. Now with IC Diamond applied, my max tempature hits 78C with fan on max and around 61C to 70C with fan on normal speeds and usage . These are with games like BF4, Tomb Raider, NFS: Rivals, Alien Isolation, NBA 2k2015, and MGS 5 Ground Zero. Your temperatures will go high based on your GPU settings for games. I always take Anti-Aliasing off because its pointless to me. Use the dot method on GPU and line method on CPU (if its rectangular). On idle my CPU and GPU are around 41C to 50c with IC Diamond, whereas it was 55C to 65C idle stock paste.

It isn't that I am hesitant about installing IC Diamond because of the product. I just don't like what the CEO said on techpowerup forums about shooting dead grandmothers and weird conspiracy crap. Trust me I have had my mouse over the buy button a couple of times for IC Diamond, but I can't seem to click it in good conscience. I figure there are plenty of other TIM's out there that will get the job done. I have a tube of GC Extreme coming in the mail today and if that doesn't fix it, I will be getting CL Ultra. I'm probably going to buy it anyway and try it on my FX 8350 I have OC'd to 4.8(I think? it is a decent OC nonetheless). The only things I have heard negative about CL Ultra is that it is difficult to remove and may require lapping, but they do have a cleaning kit... Either way, I want to try it because it looks like fun to work with liquid metal!

    EDIT:
Geez 55C-65C idle is HOT! Good thing you got that under control!

    UPDATE:
So I repasted with GC Extreme. I started a Burn in with Furmark and temps went to 77C. I then quit about half way through because it was holding steady there. I then ran Unigine Valley Benchmark and looped it for about 15 minutes. Temps reached 78C, then ... they started to drop and then stayed at 74C. This was without fans on max. So, so far this GC Extreme is working better. I will post any changes I find.

I don't have 3dmark 11, but I do have firestrike. I scored 8200ish a few minutes ago, but I just retested and it scored 8033. I noticed that the hotter it gets, the higher my scores go. I was almost to 8500 at 85C. I think it probably reached 65C during the test, BUT I didn't check I forgot to reset but the temp was at 61c when the test ended. Here is my score link http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/6585786 . So far temps are much cooler now. I played Diablo III and ran a rift with full on fans and it was a cool 69C. I am going to try it with fans on normal later tonight. Right now I have to cook steaks, and disassemble my PC to repaste with gelid, because it's about that time anyway. I am also going to repaste my two R9 290X's and see what that does because my 8350 system is a fricken oven... All temps are good and within range, but it is still such a hot processor that if I am feeling cold, all I have to do is surf the internet and it's like a warm campfire!

    EDIT:
AMD makes some amazing desktop cards, but there main board chips are hot and my 4.2 Ghz 8 core can't compete with most of Intel's 3.0 to 3.5 ghz cards. Why AMD why? You used to put out such great desktop chips at half the price! I hear that will be changing though some bigwigs from Apple just came over to AMD and are promising some big changes...

    Another Edit:
Apparently when Directx 12 hits, the FX-8350 is going to finally shine as it will uitilize 6 cores with direct lanes to the GPU! Hopefully, by the time they refine it, it will take advantage of all 8 cores... Maybe this is why Intel is pushing more cores out now... You say " I game on normal the normal fan profile" how do you do that? What are you using to control the GPU fans?

I really like my GT72 but it gets god awful loud when gaming and i'm only hitting 70c when the fans turn on full blast and won't spin back down at all even when it goes below 57-62c.

So for the GT72 Dominator Pro there is a button on the left of the keyboard that turns the fans on to full blast and in the Dragon Gaming Center there are three fan settings, Green, Comfort and Sport. Green attempts to keep the GPU at or below 82C, Comfort 85C or below and Sport controls the fans based on performance and disregards temperature. So when I say normal. I mean sport, because I game for performance so I don't want to limit my card in any way. But I don't have the fans on full blast when gaming sport. That is what I mean by "normal."
