Well, I finally figured out how to start a new thread, lol. I hope there are lots of other owners of this fine laptop out there who wish to share both questions and wisdom about their machine. I am still waiting on mine to be delivered. This is one of the ways I'm trying to mollify my intense and impatient desire to receive and start enjoying my new laptop.

Can anybody who ownes this laptop or one of similar size/weight recommend a good laptop bag for it? I prefer messenger/briefcase style, but would consider backpack style for the right features/price.
-

Bags much like laptops require some info before recommendations can be made, how much do you need to store, are there styles your prefer colour wise, is it going to business sites? What sort of budget are you looking at?
-
I prefer something conservative as I will be taking it to work. I need it to store a little bit more than the laptop, things like a notebook (the paper kind) or two, some pens, my phone, perhaps lunch, pretty much like a day bag or briefcase I suppose. I think I would prefer it to be spacious as opposed to slim. I want to keep it under $100. As I said before, I am leaning toward a messenger bag or briefcase type, but I'm not adverse to a backpack style. The most important features are, a comfortable shoulder straps, or straps, durability, good cushioning/protection for my laptop. I work at Micro Center so I get a pretty good discount on the brands of bags we carry. I am currently leaning toward one of these two:
Samsill Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Portfolio Fits LCD Screens Up to 17.3" 39107 - Micro Center
or
SOLO Executive Smart Strap Briefcase fits Screens up to 17.3" EXE300-4 - Micro Center -
So I ordered my GT60 with just the128GB mSATA SSD that comes withough upgrading, figuring that I could add SSDs in the future when I have a little more money. It has two open mSATA slots for adding up to two more mSATA SSDs. This raises many questions. Are all the big name mSATA SSDs out there, Samsung Evo, Crucial M500, Intel, Plextor, ADATA about the same or do they differ greatly in performance and reliability? Does it matter what the brand and type of SSD that is already in the machine, when adding other mSATA SSDs, or do they all work together fine? And if I plan to change out the 2.5' HDD drive for a 2.5' SSD down the road, does that matter concening my more immediate plans to add to the mSATA SSDs? I have more questions, but figured that this would be a good start.

They have slight differences that can make each better for certain users but mostly the samsung, crucial and intel ones are the established high performance brands.
-
I am leaning toward the Samsung 840 Evo mSATA SSDs. The 500gb ones are only $290 each at Micro Center. I figure I could get one now, another one in a couple of months. and eventually replace the 128gb mSATA that comes with the machine.

If raiding you will want identical models. -
In the original post, I asked if it mattered what the brand and type of SSD is arleady being used in the machine in the first mSATA slot. So if I want to put them in RAID 0, which is the one for better performance, right?, I would need them to all be identical?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes you would, you could of course raid 2 new ones, keep the original separate and have the 2.5" bay.
Each msata is independant so you can do what you like to organise them. -
Interesting, thanks for the info Meaker.

Does anyone know where the MSI drivers page went? I used to use:
http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT60_2PE_Dominator_3K_Edition.html#download

I just checked that out for the first time, it seemed to work for me, but I didn't download anything. Was it down? I haven't needed it yet since I am still waiting on my machine. Hopefully I'll have it soon, it was shipped yesterday.

Should I be concerned if when I run Speccy, it says the memory on my GTX 880 is 4095 MB? Isn't it suppose to be 8192 MB?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well what do other programs say?
-
I haven't checked other programs, do you think it would only display what is in use at the time vs. the total vram available?
-
What other programs can I run to tell me how much total memory is on the gtx 880 video chip? Somebody suggested cpu-z. Will this work?
-
It's GPU-Z.
Or Nvidia Inspector: http://www.guru3d.com/files_get/nvidia_inspector_download,1.html -
GPU-Z had it at the 8192MB it is suppose to be. I guess Speccy is off? Either way, the machine works beautifully, I was just concerned that I got hosed on the video chip not being what it was advertised as being. So I'll be glad if Speccy is wrong.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If chips were faulty (msi don't make a 4gb 880m) the mem bus would be at 128bit too since that would mean half the chips were faulty.
-
I'm guessing Speccy was wrong or off, thanks for the help everyone!

Always cross check problems across several programs

I received my machine from powernotebooks today and I am in the process of loading it with some games. First thing I noticed, and freaked me out, is the fan rotation noise (sounds like crickets) when the machine is idle. I upgraded from Asus G53JW and it barely made this much sound while playing light games or movies. I still like the shape and size of this machine though. The second thing I noticed is that my machine came with Intel Core i7-4810MQ instead of 48100MQ. I appreciate getting better CPU yet I find it weird because none of the websites I considered to deal with list this process for MSI GT60 DominatorPro 3K-475. If anyone is looking for a briefcase to carry this machine, I bought a Case Logic 17-Inch Security Friendly Laptop Case (ZLCS-217) and it fits the machine well.

Hello guys, I am considering buying this model, particularly this one here: "http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152553". I need to make a decision in two days, so any feedback or comment is appreciated. From what I read, the owners are mainly complaining about loud fan. Have you had any other major issues, such as the wifi problems the GS60 Ghost Pro owners are facing? Thanks!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No the wireless setup is pretty robust, the machine is very solid as a whole.
-
Hello everyone. I haven't been on lately because I had to send my machine back to MSI to get a new screen .as I had some dead pixels. But they fixed it and I got my machine back and it seems to be working wonderfully. To Acar, I have had no wifi issues with mine at all, it works great in that regard. I did opt for the newer AC wifi chip. The fan is a bit loud, but I'll take a loud fan any day vs. having a machine that overheats on a regular basis, so no complaint there from me. I think the cooling it provides is worth the extra noise.

If desired, simply add a notebook cooler to drive more airflow, which can help to reduce the fan noise from the notebook. -
for those using this laptop, what kind of Monitor are you using? Moreover, where is the third slot for the msata.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can use any external monitor that fits the bill, from 144hz 1440p TN to 4k IPS.
The 3rd mSATA slot in super raid 2 machines is above the other two on the same PCB. -
There is the same problem for all GT 60-70 or GX60-70 owners. I deal with this using Fan contrôle tool from ferein. You can try to apply a profile to have the fans at the minimal in idle, and louder when playing games.
