It's shared so one (GPU) can affect the other (CPU).
If you wish to reapply, then use stuff like WD40 + paper towel to clean the surface, then reapply using IC diamond with reasonable but sufficient amount.

Hi guys,
Anyone has problems with synaptics touchpad?
Mine stopped working, don't know why. I tried to reinstall the drivers....now it's worse. The touchpad won't even appear under the hardware list, even though it "installed correctly".
It tried with the drivers from the DVD and the msi website. I also noticed that the steelseries keyboard stops working after uninstalling the synaptics driver, didn't know they were "connected".
Aynways....everytime I try to go to mouse settings:
If anyone knows what to do, I'll really appreciate it. Thanks! -
Prostar Computer Company Representative
Have you tried removing the Synaptics driver with Revo Uninstaller or the like (then reinstall them from there)? -
Thanks for the reply!
I was trying with CCleaner. Now with Revo uninstaller, still it won't work. I think i'll try "remove everything and reinstall windows". -
Okay... Honest opinion question:
For $1500, would you buy this again?
I'm torn between at GT70 with 970M, or a Clevo with a 950 for the same price.
Both are essentially 970M;s, with 8gb ram, non-ssd hd. The difference is the added features of the MSI (better sound, easier upgrades, better finishes). The Clevo is lighter and thinner, and has an IPS (I'd buy through Eurocom M5 Pro).
I'm completely torn here, anyone offer any advice? -
Also you can go 4k with the Eurocom but currently with Windows 8.1 and it's mediocre UI scaling..I wouldn't bother since you can connect an external DP 1.2 high res monitor and enjoy better image quality. -
I'm new here and I'm looking at this machine, you say yours has 16GB RAM, did you get it from saveonlaptops because they are the only ones I've found in the UK to do 16GB everyone else seems to be selling 8MB of RAM machines

Im thinking of buying this laptop, the GT60 1065, I've been looking at videos and reviews but I havent been able to locate the msata ports, only the two full sata ones. From what i understand, the laptop supports two full 2.5 sata drives AND two msata drives?

Hey, im new to the forum here. Have some concerns and im not sure what to do.
I have the GT60 Dominator 1066US with a GTX970m. 1TD HD
maybe itll be easier to bullet point them:
-HDMI output: randomly in games it flickers or disables itself. Also some minor screen tearing on screen. tried diff cables. screen tearing on laptop screen sometimes during League of Legends play.
-smaller issue:
During play of Sherlock Holmes Crimes and Punishments, massive overheating. disappointed.
-heating fans can get loud, randomly increases fan speed to cool-down and it gets loud. purchased MX4 thermal paste, waiting on shipment. Will adding the paste void warranty? Ive stuck to desktops all my life till now when it comes to modifications.
RMA department wants me to send it to them, but I dont want to waste money and time shipping it out if its something i can fix myself or something they wont catch. Im hoping the community can help me
BTW: all drivers up to date. im a computer tech of sorts so wont explain more. thoroughly checked to make sure its the proper ones.
Thanks for your time folks,
Mike
ps. should i toss in an SSS drive? i mean will it help with cooling too? no moving parts. -

Hello everyone. I recently got my GT60 2QD Dominator and it came with the 1 TB HDD (like many of yours, I assume). Naturally, I purchased the MSI Super Raid 2 adapter card and 3 mSATA SSDs to put into RAID0 (1500 MB/s read!!!). However, MSI put a non-RAID BIOS on the notebook because they didn't want someone to upgrade their notebook without paying for it. Luckily, I've encountered this issue before with my GT60 2OC and dealt with it as follows. Basically, they used to include AFUDOS flash utility with BIOS downloads for you to flash new BIOS with, but now they don't because they expect you to use the EFI BIOS flash integrated into BIOS to update it. If you use EFI BIOS and try to flash from a non-RAID BIOS (E16F4IMS.5XX) to a RAID BIOS (E16F4IMS.7XX), it won't let you do it (ROMs don't match). AFUDOS utility lets you bypass this if you add a /x command in the FLASH.BAT command file that comes with AFUDOS (/x lets you skip the ROM check and turn a non-RAID BIOS into a RAID BIOS). By doing so, you will gain access to the Intel RAID settings in BIOS. Once again, this worked on my GT60 2OC and GT60 2QD (probably works for all GT60s). Once you do this, you can install all RAID BIOS updates automatically, because ROM check will pass (it only makes sure that the current version is similar to new version). I can upload all the files you would need to put on a USB to do this, if anyone is interested. I looked around a while ago and nobody posted anything like this, so I had to figure it out for myself. On my GT60 2OC, I was able to have 2 x 1 TB HDDs in RAID0 and now I have Super RAID 2 set up on the GT60 2QD. Hope this helps someone out there.

SATA mode has AHCI/IDE/RAID modes available, you can switch it without flashing to a different BIOS.

Check under Advanced menu, and look for SATA mode.
The only difference is AHCI or RAID as default setting among three modes. -

It was only the very early models back in the first core i7 era that the menu was actually removed.

I've just received my MSI GT60 today, overall I'm very happy with it so far. But I've got one question, is there a way to disable the bright led light on the power button? its been bothering me ever since i first turned it on. I normally set my screen brightness very low because it bothers my eyes, so you can imagine how much the power button light bothers me. Here's a pic.

Not electronically but you can separate the PCB fromt he cover panel and use some electrical tape to cover the LED, be aware the LED is also your dedicated/IGP optimus indicator.
-
Can anyone with the GT70 with 970M or 980M tell me which panel does it have? HWiNFO tool can easily give you that information. Thanks!
-
-
Yes, Thanks but I need the panel brand and model (of the screen) for the GT70, since I am afraid it is a TN panel, but I cannot find any information regarding this.
-
Does anyone know of a good inexpensive laptop sleeve that would fit the GT60? i think the laptop is too thick for your usual sleeve.
-
I've read through the thread and may have missed this. Does anyone have a recommendation on ram to add to a GT60 2QD-1066US?
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Best thing to do if you're adding to existing RAM is to find out what is already installed then get identical sticks. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
So if you need more RAM to operate with, you can perform an upgrade using matched part number of memory module, or you can replace them with DDR3L 1866MHz to boost more system performance. -
<deleted - wrong thread> sorry!

Does anyone have problems with Windows 10 and Nvidia Optimus switching the Nvidia card on for the Windows user interface?
Some examples are: Switching the wallpaper, opening the action center, checking the battery status. On mine, if you do any of these things, the Nvidia gpu will turn on for just a second and cause a lag if you are watching streaming video. It's also really annoying to see it switch so much.
Here's a video where I'm just clicking on "Next Desktop Background"
I sent Nvidia a bug report and they are telling me that I don't have Optimus, I have "MS Hybrid Technolgy" which of course isn't supported by them. Anyone know how to fix this? A modded driver?
Currently, I just have the Nvidia card running all the time, but if there's a better way I'd like to know. It's sad how new this computer is and it doesn't technically support Windows 10. Also so to add, Windows 8 works perfect. I even tried a clean install of Windows 10 and it still doesn't work.
Help! Thanks. -
Are you running the latest drivers for your intel GPU? What software are you running in the background? My older GT60 ran always with the GPU on because I used monitoring software (HWmonitor) and Steam.
-
I've done a clean install of Windows 10 and it happens without anything installed aside from Windows Updates (without them the Nvidia card runs all the time, but you can't use it). It's the Windows user interface. I can get the Nvidia card to turn on every single time I click "Next Desktop Background". It doesn't stay on, it just turns on for a second, then off. Drives me crazy though.
Meanwhile, Windows 8, works perfect (but I like Windows 10...)
It's a GT60 2QD if that helps. Thanks for the reply! -
Have you messed with nvidia control panel to maybe force intel GPU for everything except games? Or maybe it's the Aero interface requiring the GPU?? It's odd. My wife now owns the GT60, and she refuses to install win10 so I can't help by testing, sorry hehe.

So no one else with a GT60 upgraded to Windows 10?

@Jafaro - Sadly, we have no precedent to go off of so that I can help troubleshoot this better.
MSHybrid was introduced in Windows 8, as far as I recall, which makes this a little baffling considering you didn't encounter the same problem when using 8. Have you reached out to MSI support about it? (They may not be of much help if you're using an OS not officially supported on your model, but it's worth a quick email/phone call.) -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
There have been reports from users who had performed upgrades that had encountered stability issues. -
@Prostar Computer
I don't have much hope, but I just sent MSI a ticket. According to their Windows 10 upgrade list it's suppose to be supported.
@Kevin@GenTechPC
I did a clean install, no difference. I thought of that too.
But thanks to both of you for your replies!
EDIT: So MSI wants me to RMA it. I'm not going to. It's not a hardware problem because Windows 8 works great. I don't see them being able to fix it either. The worst part is I don't see notebooks from any manufacturer that are 15 inch, have a dvd drive, and two hard drives (regular ones) so I'm stuck.Last edited: Jun 23, 2016 -
Maybe drop the Windows 10? Go back to 8.1, or 7?
-
Did anyone ever have problems using all 3 ports on their laptop? I can't get the middle mini Display port to recognize the display. Funny thing is, someone had the exact same problem as me in Linustechtips forums but they posted about the problem 2 years ago and no one replied.
