What exactly does the super raid 2 adapter do? Does it just allow 3x SSD's to be put in raid 0? As I see the GT001-US model also has 3mSATA SSD slots.

It will allow up to 3x mSATA drives to be raided, yes - supposedly you can get up to like 1500 MB/s from them, but doesn't seem to be noticeable in real application from what I've read.

It routes 3 SATA gen3 ports to the primary bay with 3 mSATA slots to use them. You can treat each slot as its own drive as if plugged into a SATA slot on any motherboard.

Whereas the previous implementation of Super RAID was with 2 mSATA drives + the primary drive, Super RAID 2 is implemented on 3 mSATA drives. Don't let the name fool you; it's not RAID 2 (which is not commercially successful), but rather 3 drives in RAID 0.

When I had spoken with a sales rep for a laptop reseller(won't name any names) they stated that GT70 OD-001US does not have the "super raid 2 adapter" and therefore they can only raid-0 2/3 of the msata ssd's and the third ssd would act as it's own hard drive.

But you're saying that model can support 3x SSD's in raid 0 config? I know the "super raid 2" is just a marketing gimmick, but if that model can in fact raid0 3xSSD's for 3x the speeds, then I'd rather save my money and customize that model instead of buying a dragon edition and having to customize it with better SSD's, the laptop itself already costs a small fortune!

At 11:33 of this Gentech YouTube video the bottom inside of a GT70 can be seen with the Super Raid 2 adapter containing 3 mSATA SSDs in the upper left corner and a hard drive in the lower right corner.

There are no other mSATA connectors than the Super Raid 2 adapter.

If the GT70-20D 001US ships with 1 x mSATA,that mSATA needs to be in a Super Raid 2 adapter.

I don't see any other way to attach an mSATA SSD.

Nooo, I didn't say the 001US had it, I was outlining the differences. :) The 001US to my knowledge can use 2 mSATA drives (Super RAID), but not the Super RAID 2 setup with the 3 drive logic board. The only unit we carry with the Super RAID 2 adapter is the GT70-20D-039US.

Do you carry the GT70-20D 001US?

Viewing Gentech's site and the GT70-20D 001US customization I see that it has 1 x128GB mSATA SSD as the stock Primary Drive configuration and customizations to 2 mSATA SSDs or 3 mSATA SSDs.

How would it be possible not only to have the 1 stock mSATA SSD but 2 or 3 if the GT70-20D 001US didn't have a SR2 adapter?

I don't see any mSATA slots.

SKUs that comes with Super RAID 2 adapter:

    GT70 2OD-039US
    GT70 2OD-019US
    GT70 2OD-001US
    GT70 2OC-017US
    GT60 2OD-026US
    GT60 2OC-024US

The board are all the same, it's a 3x mSATA module. the differences with these SKUs are some came installed with only 1 mSATA SSDs and some comes with 2 or 3.

Example on our GT60 2OD video at 11:01:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1aoS-qH_AM

It has Super RAID 2 board with only 2 mSATA SSD installed.

The previous Super RAID board that supports only 2 mSATA SSDs won't work on Haswell models, the connectors won't even fit:

Yes since the connector needs to transmit the extra sata lanes so more pins.

So,the Ivy Bridge Whitebook barebones 1762 and 16F3 were able to use the Super Raid 1 adapter thusly I'm assuming the new 1763 barebones will be able to use the Super Raid 2 adapter?

    Nice Video Ken!

Does anyone know where can I buy this "3 slot mSata adapter"?
    I've bought a GT70 2OC, but it didn't come with this mSata connection board/adapter.

    thanks.

    I never test it.

But I have another laptop using RAID 0 with 2 SSD disks, and it is possible to see a great increase of speed (specially on transfer big files, boot up, render 3D and videos).
Having this experience, I thought that having a RAID 0 using 3 disks at the same time, would increase more, am I wrong?

Well it all depends on the kind of transfers you are doing, if it's over a gigabit lan then no since it's saturated. A single fast modern SSD should boot the same speed as two. You could well be better off with a pair of 1TB 2.5" Samsung SSDs.

Is it possible to have two similar mSata drives in RAID 0 and one (bigger one) as normal volume on Super Raid 2 adapter?

God yes! I've just gone from a Clevo with 120GB mSATA SSD and 2 x WD Black 750GB in RAID0 to the GT60 2PC.

Can I get a 3 slot Super Raid2 adapter? Waiting for things to happens on this mechanical drive is driving me mad!

    Cheers.

It is the same, so you have to contact the local branch to purchase one if your unit doesn't have the daughter board.

    Thanks Kevin.

Are the daughter boards available to purchase separately? Is it straightforwards to take out the normal drive attachment and fit the mSATA daughter board?

One note of caution. When you remove the screws of the single sata connector board to install the Super RAID board be extremely careful of not letting the screws fall onto the drive bay. Some evil hardware designer decided to place a random hole in the drive bay right next to one of the screw posts. Unless you are very aware of this, you will likely have the loose screw drop into the hole and disappear inside the inner workings of the laptop. This happened to me and I had to vigorously and carefully shake my laptop for a a couple minutes and by pure luck the loose screw fell out. Loose screws inside a working laptop is not a good combination.

I bet all of the VARs in this forum know exactly what I am talking about.

I ordered mine with the thought of upgrading to the 3 msata drive raid when I could afford it. The sales rep told me it had the raid card in it , when i took it apart it did not . I got mine ordered for 35 plus 15 shipping. I found a deal online for 3 crucial m500 24og for a 100 a piece. To add on the card was a freaking pain . Make sure you update your bios and I had to do this is 3 stages. Next mine did not come with windows 8 do I had to make a msi recovery disk , which partitions your raid in half :( . Also make sure you download all the updated drivers and software. You can order the part from msi. The end result is I'm getting 1522 mb seek times , this raid is flipping fast , I'm always first one to load into a map in games. And it boots in like 5 secs

I indeed had to , set to raid initially and nothing you could not access the intel raid bios either . Once I updated the bios all raid options were available. Keep in mind my laptop did not have the msata raid card installed maybe that is why.

I just got the Dominator 895 and was looking forward to the MSata ports, but alas, it doesn't have the daughter card. Is there a place in the US that you can buy it? I have googled and can't find anything. Thanks everyone.

    Hello,

I also have this setup. Using MSI Barebones MS16F4, equal to MSI GT60 2OC. I'm using 3 x Samsung 840 EVO 120GB mSATA in RAID 0. After windows 8.1 install, it suddenly restart, then it won't boot again and keeps on restarting, showing black screen and only the mouse cursor is available, with the power button lights blinking from orange/white.

Tried reinstalling the windows all over again, but the same thing happens after 2x installs. Afraid that it will burn the SSD or something.

Have you encountered this problems before? Or can you help me on this matter?
I just recently added the extra 2 SSD. Previously running fine with single SSD.

    Would really like some help.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Yuri

You can run OS in JBOD mode (AHCI), or RAID.
