I purchased a GT80 Titan about 2 weeks ago from newegg. Unfortunately I had to return the device because the monitor was emitting a high-pitched sound when the brightnesss is above or below min/max brightness. I received the replacement laptop, and the monitor appears to be in better shape, now there's an issue with the buttons for the touchpad.

It's quite a strange issue, whenver I left or right click the BUTTONS of the touchpad, they appear to be held-down / pressed for half a second. Even if I quickly press the button, it appears the mouse is constantly pressed. This makes double-clicking to open an application frustration. It's like there's a minimum time the touchpad says the button is pressed (if I press the button for .001 seconds or .02 seconds, it will still consider the button to be pressed and held for 0.5 seconds. The only way to open an application is

    1) use an external mouse (works great)
    2) double click very slowly.

I hope this is just terrible luck with the GT80 and not an indication of their quality. Regardless I love this machine and find the idea of shipping it AGAIN none too pleasing. Any suggestions? Or will I have to ask for yet another GT80 and hope 3rd time is a charm?

Try removing the touchpad software and verify the symptom again.

I tried that, along with uninstalling all software (I REALLY don't want to return this). Once I got down to the last piece of software and uninstalled it went away. Then I began to reinstall all drivers 1-by-1 to find the culprit. I installed everything back, including the touchpad software (synaptics). Still no issue! Then I hit the numlock / numpad to illuminate the numpad and disable the touchpad. After that the issue emerged from it's hole. Uninstalling all software did not resolve it this time. I'm thinking this must be some bizarre firmware / hardware isssue (as a software engineer I always blame the firmware / hardware).

Anyways I am certainly open to suggestions. I can't stand the idea of returning the laptop again, but the idea of spending the $$$$ on a laptop with a defective touchpad is worse. I must have the worst luck with the GT80.

Sounds like there might be something behind the buttons, regardless it leaves you in a tough spot and I understand (if you open the back they will prob deny your exchange or return). I had 3 GT80's paid for at one time so roughly 10k out of my pocket with my raid failure and the switching to the 009. Just order another one and swap them out is my motto if you are under your 30 days, its less worry to you.

Turns out the issue would go away if I DISABLED tap-to-click (but then I can't use the numpad) then SHUTDOWN (not restart for some reason). But as soon as I reenabled tap-to-click and activated the numpad, the issue would come back. This told me it couldn't be a hardware issue. I was unable to find a firmware for this touchpad, so I attempted to reinstall the driver provided by MSIs CD again. Same issue. But once I reinstalled with the driver off MSIs support website, the issue went away.

Both appear to be the same version, but it works. Thanks everyone for the great feedback. I can finally sit back and enjoy this great laptop.
