I am having an issue with my new notebook which is an MSI GT73VR 7RF. The processor is an Intel i7-7820HK and the graphics card is a GTX 1080.

In short, the laptop performs well immediately after a restart or a driver reinstall. Games like ROTR give me a very good fps rate on the highest settings and I also get a high fps rate while benchmarking using Unigine Heaven just as I should be with this setup.

However, once I close my laptop lid and come back to the laptop later on, I get fps rates in the 20-30 fps region on everything with the same settings. It is also worth mentioning that I get low fps once the charger is unplugged.

I have used the latest GPU drivers and rolled back to previous drivers but still I have the same issue. I have set the laptop to prefer maximum performance in the NVidia control panel and used high performance power plans but this has made no difference. I also turned off battery boost on GeForce Experience but this did not work either. Finally, I did a full factory reset of the laptop today but it made no difference.

Could someone please provide me with some assistance?

Please check your Bios version and compare it to the one on MSI website. There is a Bios update available for you system btw.

Disabled fast startup but the issue still remained. However, I just did the BIOS update and it appears to have solved the problem.

Thanks guys. I will update the thread if the issue returns

In control panel power options click change plan setting of high performance. And then click change advance power settings and experiment.

Yup, good job with updating BIOS & EC firmware, also please note that low fps is expected in battery mode due to limited wattage.
