On my GS 43, the main SSD drive is pretty fast and I don't have any issues.

On the one terabyte D Drive, which I believe is 5400 RPM, The first time I go and try to open a folder, especially one that has a large amount of files or video files, it has to load for a little while before. On top of explorer, it says "working on it" and loading.

Same thing happens if I hook up an external drive. What's causing this slow down and loading time? Is it the fact that the drive is 5400 RPM? Or is there some type of virus scanner or other indexing going on that is causing this to slow down? Any ideas what I can look at?

If I got a 7200 RPM external drive, or even an SSD external drive, would that solve the problem?

By "a little while" what are we talking? A second or two or thirty? It's normal for it to hang a sec as the drive head has to come out of the park position. I'd only be concerned if it was a seemingly substantial amount of time

I would say a good 10-20 seconds. My ssd doesn't do that.

Is it the 5400 rpm doing that or USB 3? I turned indexing off too

Shouldn't be usb, the one terabyte is internal correct? You could try turning up the time before a hard disk turns off in the power settings. If that works to reduce the number of times you notice it happening, probably just the normal process of turning on causing it.
