    Hi guys,

Please delete and inform me if this isn't allowed however I'm looking for some advice from people who may have done the upgrade I am planning on.

At the min I have Asus G750, with i7 4700q, Nvidia 765m, I have upped the ram to 16gb Kingston 2133mhz, 256gb Samsung Pro SSD and added 2TB HDD.

I really only browse and play a couple of games primarily Football Manager and Total War.

    I've been thinking of upgrading to the MSI GT72S 6QE with 6820hk, 8gb 980m, 16/32gb ddr4 and 512 ssd's with 1tb hdd.

Has anyone done this upgrade? I understand both laptops are overkill for what I do but why not? Am I going to notice a massive difference in Football Manager? I've been told the game is mainly CPU intensive so anything to make it a lot faster would be ideal.

Let me know what you guys think.

    Thanks,
    H

Hm... What settings are you using right now, and what fps do you get in those two games? Most importantly what are you paying for the system? Other laptops (from MSI even) can offer better performance than a 980m for around 1400-1500 bucks.

If you can find someone unloading a very cheap one due to Pascal being released, it's not a bad laptop by any means, although probably overkill for your purposes as you mentioned. The 6820HK should be appreciably faster.

Thanks for the responses guy, I have no idea what I get at the min in terms of FPS sorry, none of the games I play require that level of detail haha, I'd be paying approx. £1700 for it and hopefully getting around £500 for my current laptop.

Q937, what does that mean in regards to the Pascal release? Sorry.

1700 is a ripoff. You can probably get one for much less. Pascal is the new GPU lineup from Nvidia. People are likely to start trying to unload Maxwell (900 series) laptops for cheap, so try to find a really good bargain.

£1700 is the cheapest anywhere in the UK, so I assumed it was ok for Skylake etc. In all honesty am I better waiting for the next line of CPU's to notice a bigger improvement?

The reason it's a ripoff is because it's a previous-gen GPU. There's no reason to pay anywhere near full price after the new generation is released, since people often sell for much cheaper. If you absolutely must have a new notebook, see if you can haggle them down a bit.

No the cpu release coming will be mostly irrelevant for gaming (cpu bound games will benefit but even then, only by a few percent. If you don't know what I'm talking about just takeaway that the 7th gen i7s won't be a big deal for gaming). The graphics card is only a 980m on that GT72. Your in the UK right? So something like this: would crush it: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/defianceIII-15/

A 1070 is nearly superior to two 980ms. And its less money than that GT72. The model is really called a Clevo P650RS and its a great machine. MSI would have the GT62VR if you wanted to stay in the MSI brand, but I think its at least a bit more expensive/idk whare to buy one of those in the UK for a solid price. A good configuration of the one I linked must have 16GB of ram, and probably an ssd for around 1500. It sounds like for your needs even a 1060 is plenty and that gpu would shave a couple hundred off the price while still being 30% faster than a 980m.

Thanks again all for the replies, if I were to go for a different laptop with say the 1060 or 1070 should I be looking at getting the 6820hk or the 6700? Most I can see at the moment have the 6700 which I didn't think was as fast?

Not sure why but I'm sort of desperate for an MSI? Had a look at the Clevo on PC Specialist spec'd it with 1060 and 6820hk and it came in at £1500 which I thought was good.
