Hey guys, I have a few questions and was hoping this was a good place to get some answers.

    1) Do you guys think the price of the GX640-260US (or any new versions that may be coming out soon) will be lower by the end of September than it is today ($1,229 for the spec below), or does it not make a difference to wait? I don't need the laptop right now (it'd be nice, but I'd rather save some money), but if the price probably won't go down, then why bother waiting?

    2) I've built my own desktops before, but never messed with the innards of a laptop. Amazon/J&R has the GX640-260US for $1,100 without the IC Diamond and Intel N 6300 but everything else the same. I can get the two missing components and install them myself for a lot cheaper than if I got it from xoticpc. Would you guys recommend still getting it from Xotic or do you think it'd be better to save some cash and try installing it myself?

    3) I'll be using this on campus all day (I'll have outlets, so battery life isn't too big of a deal) and was wondering if the N 6300 is a good idea. I go to school at a major university so the wifi is pretty good, but I don't really know anything about laptop wireless cards and saw something about the N 6300 being better for campus internet.

    4) If I do end up having battery life issues, does anyone know how I would go about getting a spare battery? Does Newegg sell compatible ones with the GX640-260US?

The chance for a drop in price is always there, since that is often how the demand and supply works (new products on market -> lower price on existing goods). But if You should wait is a matter of Your own patience. When it comes to pc/laptops waiting is an evil options, since either price has droped on the pc/laptop You are looking for or something new and better has arrived. I would buy if I found what I was looking for...Laptops prices is like a box of chocolates... ;)

Here in Czech Republic, I bought an early version of GX640 for 24500 Kc (local currency). Right now the same comp costs ~27000 so they actually increased the pricing (probably because of demand :)

But in your case - newly arrived GX660/GT660 should push back the prices of 640s'.

    actually dont wait.
Reason : msi for an unknown reason become over aggressive and launched too many models in small price range.
The gx-series is always run over by gt-series so there is a chance that if gt's get stable gx could be museum pieces(rare), additionally 640 is super-hit so no price drop(its already bloody cheap).
6300n is totally worth upgrade, bt do it yourself. As for thermal paste, it depends.
Battery: 9-cell spares are rare, 6-cell are plentiful on e-bay.
