What is the 1080p screen like on this model? does it have good contrast and brightness??? how wouild you compare it to other models? say the screen on a AW RGB LED? or the screen on the Asus g73 which is very very nice?

or the screen on a HP Envy?

does it compare? I read on another board that its below average in quality? I guess MSI has never really been known for having good screens? i love the look of this laptop... but there are two things holding me back,, and thats the screen and the lack of backlit keyboard...

If the screen is really a deal breaker then you will probably forget about this laptop. The screen works but it is indeed below average.

Don't even compare it to an RGBLED screen, this is just WLED. Brightness is top notch but contrast is average. The main problem is the viewing angles which are very small.

I don't care because It works for me and on high light ambience it works great, but I know some people would be disappointed.

Aside from that, the speakers and performance are amazing. :D

The new 660s have a pretty low-grade display. Viewing angles are limited and contrast is only 296:1. The GX640's monitor has over twice the contrast and superior viewing angles. Makes no sense that the new notebooks cost so much more and yet contain inferior peripherals. I guess they put all their eggs in the same basket with the 2.1 speaker system from Dynaudio.

The Envy has both Beats audio AND a fantastic Radiance display from HP. And a backlit keyboard as well.

Yeah, the screen is average, like the kind you find on best buy regular notebooks. With ATi color saturation though, it becomes rather good enough.

And man, the 2.1 system audio was totally worth the screen I got. I don't even miss the backlit keyboard anymore, and I used to complain a lot about it before I got my machine!

No software setting can fix the horrendous black level.

The horrendous black level is due to WLED with poor contrast, and it is actually GOOD in well lit places. Here at work my computer looks great.

Back at home on my room with barely any lights on, I get to see the gray soup incoming.

Would it even be possible to some how down the road switch it out for the screen that comes with the Sager 8690? Everyone raves about the screen that those come with.

    I know, wishful thinking.

Yes, everything is possible. As long as the screen you want to change it to fits etc, you would only need to perform a bit of modding.

AUO15ED, has more bad rep than it should, but believe me it works ok. Specially once you bump color saturation.

How does the lower resolution screen compare to this screen? Are the viewing angles and contrast any better?
