There is a piece of lint stuck under my f key but there is no way to get it out besides removing the key. I tried removing the key earlier but halfway through the attempt I was afraid that the keys aren't removable so I stopped. Are they safe to remove?

Yes you can. I just removed one of my keys and put it on without a problem.
