#1 - during gameplay, any game (Bulletstorm, Torchlight II, Battlefield Bad Company 2, etc.) the machine locks-up for a second or two. Basically no input is accepted and the screen freezes. Audio continues but nothing else. I notice it happens exactly as there is disc access. Anybody else experience this or know how I can fix it?

#2 - how do I re-configure the media button on my quick launch bar to something other than winblow media player?

    Thanks!

    1. Have you checked for any disk I/O errors? Hard Drive Sentinel or Crystal Disk Info should be able to tell you something.

    2. Control Panel/Default Programs/Set Program Access and Defaults. Use the "Custom" profile, then change the program under "Default Media Player" to whatever you want to use, as long as it's installed on your computer.

Thanks but both tools showed the SSD @ "Perfect." Will have to figure out something else causing this glitch.

And I was unable to change the Default Media Player for the quick access button. I uninstalled Windows Media Player, and installed SPlayer. Using your instructions I only saw "Use my current media player" as a choice - no specific name. Now when I click the quick access button nothing happens. I tried installing another media player but the same result. I even made sure within the programs Windows associations were setup for all media files. Dunno what's up with my new notebook :(

Sending it back. Thank goodness for Amazon's return policy, no hassle and even schedules UPS to pickup from my house!

This thing has way too many problems for me to deal with less than a week in. Something, probably the GPU is causing these insanely frustrating lock-ups. Worse yet I just read a good article review by ANANDTECH regarding the poor thermal properties of this machine. Wish I read this last week before ordering it. Off to Asus I go even without a 780GTX.

I've seen that article as well. Honestly, we don't get any calls or emails regarding overheating or thermal issues with these; it's a very relative thing it seems. In any case, I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, but whatever you decide to replace it with, I hope it treats you well.

Did your system totally lock up or stutter? I wonder if it was a throttling issue that could have been fixed with ThrottleStop performance adjustment tool?
Best wishes in finding the machine that suits your needs and runs well for you!

Yeah it stuttered every 10 seconds or so. But after reading the ANANDTECH review I posted earlier and not feeling inclined to deal with issues so early into a new notebook relationship, I just let Amazon and UPS do the heavy lifting by taking the thing back with a full refund. UPS picked up the MSI this morning after handing me my new ASUS G750JW!

Good that you managed to get a quick return and everything working out for you TC. I just wanted to point out the Anandtech review is actually one of the worst written ones, and generally incorrect. Tho they did most likely get a lemon, as there are more reviews out there which are more positive and less... unprofessional.

    Enjoy the Asus!
