I just purchased an MS-171F whitebook. I installed a Core 2 DUO P8300, 4Gb Crucial DDR2 667 RAM and a WS3200BEFK, Scorpio black 320Gb 7200RPM 16M SATA HDD. I thought that the build went fine. The post screen came up and I went into the BIOS to look around. The Core 2 DUO is recognized, the full allocation of RAM is recognized, but the SATA drive is not. On the relevant screen in the BIOS, it says that The IDE Master is not recognized.

Why is the BIOS looking for an IDE drive on a mainboard that doesn't even have the power pins for an IDE drive? The SATA mode is set to SATA. Sould it be ACHI? Does anyone have a link to a BIOS update? The current BIOS is A171FIG6 Ver 1.02 (10/14/2008). The EC is 171FEMS1 Ver4.10 (9/11/2008).

Any other tidbits of wisdom? Thanks

I resolved this issue. By removing and reseating the HDD for the 8th time. Suddenly saw the drive. Irritating.

I had this problem at first as well and reseating the drive fixed the problem too.
