Gentech had a promotion where they gave free IC Diamond upgrade. Then when I return it, they charge me 15% restocking fee?

They would charge me $300 for IC Diamond which I don't even know if they actually did it?

They sell me a defective notebook, offer free cooling upgrade, then charge $300 for a return. What a nice racket.

I understand your frustration; curious, what was wrong with the notebook? If you just decided you didn't want it, I see Gentech's side as they do state their policy upfront (although I agree their *free* upgrades could be a source of confusion), but if the notebook was defective, you have every right to a new replacement that is not defective without paying the restocking fee.

This. I second what be77solo has said here. If you simply decided you didn't want the unit anymore, or decided it wasn't for you and claimed defective, then I see their point in not giving you a refund as they are a smaller boutique store and allowing returns hits their bottom line.

If the unit was indeed defective, and you returned it to them, then they should either help you get it back to MSI for repairs, or possibly offer to replace your unit. But you said you wanted a return, so this leads me to believe that you have changed your mind on the laptop. If that is the case, then my suggestion to you in the future is to read the return policy very carefully, and or possibly buy from large retailers/warehouses that allow returns within a certain time frame. Because like I said, usually the smaller boutique stores, like GenTech and Xotic will not allow you to return an item for a full refund if you simply change your mind on an opened item.

That said, places like Xotic and Gentech also provide a better customer experience, and end user support for the life of the laptop. It really comes down to what is important to you when you end up buying.

The wireless card disappeared and would not reappear. After a few restarts, it reappeared and I installed new drivers. After waking the computer from sleep, it was gone again. Could not even find it from control panel. That's unacceptable for a $2,000 laptop. Hence the return.

I have no way of knowing if they even put the IC Diamond on. I have no idea if they knew the laptop was defective and trapped me into losing $300.

You were told there will be restocking fee before you sent it back.

You won't even let me troubleshoot on the phone, also we can replace a brand new unit and pay both way shipping. you do have choice.

I think others have expressed their opinion and gentech provided you with options. It seems you only wanted to vent about it and are not looking for any particular solution. This thread is over.
