I was wondering if anyone out there knows if there is any possible way to get a replacement heatsink for this laptop (ms 1029). I am wondering because I striped two of the screws for the cpu and am uncertain if it is completly screwed on or not now. Temps dont seem to have changed much, actually they seem to be on par to what they were before, but I can't like take it apart to check the AS on the chips without risking complete destruction. I really dont want to fry the cpu but I am not going to be able to buy a new laptop when this one is in working condition, minus heatsink.
    Thanks!

I would suggest the best place to go would be to MSI direct. You can go to their website at www.msicomputer.com

Contact them and they will be able help you out.

Yes I am a different person....
But my reseller seems to have kept my HS after sending it back for warrenty work and I wont to make sure I dont have ~1k paper wieght if they are disagreeable. (1k in terms of all the parts not just the barebone.)

I have noticed on mine that the fan has gotten quite noisy lately. I was wondering if it is possible to replace the fan or if I would need a whole new heatsink. Also, would it help my temperatures to put arctic silver on, and remove the thermal pads?

Not sure if the fan is available seperatly.

Use the arctic silver only on the CPU, don't use it where the thicker pads are.

I feel like lately the temps have suddenly increased. If it isnt advisable to replace the thicker pads, are there any other pads I could buy that woudl be of higher quality than the stock ones?

I do believe the fan is available seperately. While I am to lazy to go get it from the other part of the house, I have a seperate fan.....

It turns out it wasnt my reseller that kept my heatsink and fan, it was the MSI repair facility in Ca.
Well anyway, I received a fan only on my first "hey wheres my heatsink" email.
Supposedly my heatsink is on the way.

If anyone needs the part number for the fan, post here and I will post it. (no idea how much it might be though.)
